Sony’s Soneium blockchain has entered into a partnership with Animoca Brands to develop identity solutions and support anime-themed initiatives on the blockchain. The collaboration will integrate Moca Network’s identity infrastructure into Soneium, providing users with a secure and verifiable digital identity while expanding engagement opportunities in anime-related experiences.
Sony’s Soneium Blockchain
Soneium is an Ethereum Layer 2 open blockchain developed by Sony in partnership with Startale Group. It operates using Optimism’s Superchain technology, designed to enhance scalability and interoperability. Through this collaboration, Animoca Brands will introduce Moca Network’s flagship identity platform, which aims to create a seamless digital identity system for web3 applications.
The integration will begin with the introduction of Anime ID, a decentralized identifier (DID) and reputation layer developed by San FranTokyo, a key contributor to the Anime Foundation. This system will allow users to verify their credentials and maintain a consistent identity across various decentralized applications (dApps) on Soneium. By incorporating Moca Network’s Account, Identity, and Reputation SDK (AIR SDK), the blockchain will enable users to establish and control embedded accounts, ensuring a unified and secure digital presence.

San FranTokyo will also play a crucial role in launching anime-inspired campaigns on Soneium. These initiatives are designed to onboard anime enthusiasts to Sony’s blockchain ecosystem, offering new ways for fans to engage with anime content in a decentralized digital environment. The goal is to foster greater participation and interaction within the anime community while leveraging blockchain technology to provide verifiable digital credentials.
Yat Siu, executive chairman of Animoca Brands, emphasized that the partnership represents a step forward in the evolution of web3. He highlighted that integrating Moca Network’s identity infrastructure into Soneium would not only enhance entertainment experiences but also create a more interconnected and secure digital ecosystem.
Sony Block Solutions Labs (SBSL), the entity behind Soneium, was established by Sony Group Corporation and Startale Group with the objective of exploring new possibilities through blockchain technology. Sony’s broader vision includes developing digital solutions that enhance connectivity and creativity across various industries. The company has long been committed to leveraging technology to evoke emotions and build deeper connections between people, and this partnership aligns with that goal by providing a platform for digital identity and cultural engagement.
Jun Watanabe, chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs, stated that the collaboration with Animoca Brands will establish a foundational identity and reputation layer on Soneium. He pointed out that anime, as one of the world’s largest entertainment industries, has significant potential within blockchain ecosystems. By incorporating Moca Network’s identity solutions, Soneium aims to create a more dynamic and interactive experience for anime fans worldwide.

Beyond Soneium, Moca Network’s AIR SDK will be integrated into additional blockchain networks, including Base and Plume. This expansion will allow users to tokenize various types of data and access cross-ecosystem rewards based on a single digital identity. The broader goal is to establish a universal digital identity framework that can be utilized across multiple blockchain platforms, providing users with a consistent and secure way to interact with different web3 ecosystems.
David Taing, head of San FranTokyo, expressed enthusiasm about Anime ID’s integration with Soneium, noting that it represents a significant milestone in expanding anime-related blockchain initiatives. He emphasized that the collaboration with Moca Network and Soneium will enable fans and industry partners to connect and participate in new digital experiences inspired by anime culture.
The partnership between Sony’s Soneium blockchain and Animoca Brands underscores the growing convergence of blockchain technology, entertainment, and identity solutions. By leveraging decentralized identifiers and secure credential verification, the collaboration aims to enhance user experiences in anime, gaming, and other digital domains, paving the way for broader adoption of blockchain-based identity systems in the evolving web3 landscape.
