Somnia Announces $SOMI Token

Somnia has shared details on its $SOMI token, including its role in governance, staking, and validator rewards. The first airdrop will reward testnet users, creators, and developers.

The Somnia Foundation has released detailed information on its native $SOMI token and confirmed the launch of its first airdrop. A new checker tool is now available, allowing community members to verify their eligibility for the initial distribution phase. This announcement marks a significant step in the platform’s ongoing effort to build a community-driven network and expand its web3 ecosystem.

About Somnia

Somnia’s development has advanced significantly since its early focus on metaverse applications. Following the launch of the Devnet in November 2024, the network demonstrated the ability to process over 1.05 million transactions per second, surpassing the initial projection of 400,000. It also achieved transaction speeds of 50,000 per second for swaps and 300,000 per second for NFT mints, all with sub-second latency.

The next stage came with the Shannon Testnet, named after Claude Shannon, which further expanded activity on the network. More than 60 validators and 70 projects joined during this phase, and the system processed over two billion transactions. These results provided the foundation for the introduction of the $SOMI token and the upcoming mainnet launch.

Details on the $SOMI Token

The $SOMI token will function as the core utility asset within the Somnia network. It will be used to pay gas fees, support staking mechanisms for validators, and provide access to various services across the platform. In addition, the token will eventually give holders the ability to participate in governance decisions, ensuring that the development of the network reflects the input of its community.

Somnia has set a total supply cap of one billion tokens. To avoid long-term inflationary pressures, the foundation has allocated 10 percent of the supply to validator rewards rather than relying on constant issuance. A deflationary element is also being introduced, with half of all gas fees collected on the network to be permanently removed from circulation.

Airdrop, Distribution, and Quests

The initial airdrop has been designed to reward users who contributed during the early stages of Somnia’s development. Eligibility is determined by factors such as activity on the testnet, participation in quests, and engagement in the community. Users with higher Authena scores, holders of certain Discord roles, and owners of ecosystem NFTs qualified for rewards. Accounts that attempted to manipulate the system, such as through wallet hopping, were excluded.

The majority of the airdrop allocation, representing just over four percent of the total supply, has been assigned to testnet participants who took part in quests and provided feedback. Smaller allocations were reserved for creators who contributed content and community engagement, for holders of SomniYaps, and for owners of Quills NFTs who supported cultural and creative activities within the network. Special recognition was also given to developers with technical roles and power users who engaged with NFT collections tied to the platform.

Future Incentives and Initiatives

The launch of the $SOMI token and its first airdrop is only part of a broader plan. Somnia has reserved an additional eight percent of the total supply for continued incentives aimed at developers, creators, and active community members. This approach is intended to encourage sustained participation and ensure the growth of the ecosystem.

The foundation is also preparing to launch Somnia Mines, a new initiative designed to expand engagement within the platform. While full details have not yet been disclosed, the project is expected to create new ways for users to interact with applications and earn tokens.

Earlier this month, Somnia hosted its first Gaming Week, offering prize pools worth more than $10,000 across several games, including Hive Invasion, Maelstrom, and Variance. The foundation also opened applications for the Dreamathon Incubator, a program with $200,000 in funding for teams building real-time web3 applications across GameFi, DeFi, and SocialFi.
