Senua's Saga: Hellblade II Release Date

Ninja Theory has officially announced that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Enhanced will launch on August 12 with a suite of upgrades, new features, and expanded platform support. The updated version of the cinematic action-adventure game is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC, Steam, and Game Pass as a free update, and for the first time, it's also launching on PlayStation 5.

The PlayStation 5 version will be available in two editions: a Standard Edition priced at $49.99, and a Deluxe Edition for $69.99. The latter includes the enhanced version of Hellblade II along with Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice optimized for PS5, plus the original soundtrack from the first game. Players who already own the PS4 version of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice can upgrade to the PS5 version at no extra cost.

What’s New in the Enhanced Version

The enhanced release focuses on delivering a more immersive experience through performance and visual upgrades, and a few new ways to interact with the game. One of the biggest additions is Performance Mode, which lets players run the game at 60 frames per second on supported platforms, providing smoother combat and movement. It’s not available on Xbox Series S, but on PC, players will get access to a new ‘Very High’ graphics preset for even more visual fidelity. Ninja Theory has also optimized the game for Steam Deck, and it will officially become Steam Deck Verified starting August 12.

The Dark Rot Makes a Comeback

Returning from the first game is the Dark Rot, an optional mode that introduces higher stakes and more pressure. Every failure causes the rot to grow, and if it reaches Senua’s head, the game ends and progress is lost. It’s not for everyone, but for those looking for a greater challenge, it’s a compelling addition that fits the tone of Senua’s journey.

Expanded Photo Mode and Developer Notes

Photo Mode has received a full upgrade, with more customization options and an all-new ‘Motion’ tab for players interested in capturing cinematic video clips. Given how active the game’s virtual photography community has been, this update is designed to give them more control over how they document the world of Hellblade.

In addition, players will get access to over four hours of developer commentary, featuring insights from Ninja Theory’s creative team, voice actors, and collaborators. The commentary dives into the technical craft and emotional storytelling behind Hellblade II, including how the game portrays Senua’s experience with psychosis.
