Grow a Garden, a Roblox game developed by a 16-year-old, surpasses Fortnite's record with 16.4 million concurrent players, becoming the most played video game by peak user count.
According to Justin Yuan, Roblox's Grow a Garden recently hit 16.4 million concurrent users (CCUs), setting a new record for the highest number of simultaneous players in a video game. This milestone surpasses the previous record held by Fortnite during its Galactus live event in November 2020. The achievement places Grow a Garden at the top of the list of the most played video games of all time based on peak concurrent player count. The number of players recorded exceeds the peak in-game concurrent users on Steam and is several times higher than the typical CCU levels seen on PlayStation.
Roblox Grow a Garden Sees Over 16 Million CCUs
Grow A Garden’s trajectory shifted significantly after it was acquired by Splitting Point Studios, a remote-first Roblox development team led by Janzen “Jandel” Madsen and based in New Zealand. The game originally started with approximately 1,000 concurrent users under its original creator, BMWLux, a solo developer who remains involved in creative aspects of the project. Splitting Point Studios took on the title when it showed promising signs of retention and potential for scalability.
Following the acquisition, the studio assigned the majority of its developers—around 12 of its 19-person team—to the project. Changes were made based on player feedback, and updates were designed to sustain long-term engagement. Splitting Point Studios has experience with high-performing games across Roblox, including Gunfight Arena and A Dusty Trip, which have earned hundreds of millions of visits each. This background gave the team the foundation needed to scale Grow A Garden effectively.
With its new record, Grow a Garden now ranks first among the top fifteen video games of all time based on peak concurrent user numbers. It has surpassed major titles such as Fortnite, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), and Crossfire, all of which have previously held leading positions in the category. The strong performance of a Roblox-based game in this context signals the growing reach of user-generated gaming platforms and the increasing relevance of alternative game ecosystems.
Roblox Grow a Garden Sees Over 16 Million CCUs
Grow A Garden incorporates several design features that contribute to its broad appeal. One notable element is the game’s use of an offline progression mechanic. Players continue to grow their gardens even when not actively logged in. While this feature is common in mobile games, it is relatively rare within Roblox. It encourages users to return to the game regularly and aligns well with Roblox’s overall platform goals.
The game’s design emphasizes non-competitive, relaxing casual gameplay. Unlike many Roblox titles that focus on player-versus-player interaction or fast-paced action, Grow A Garden allows users to progress at their own pace in a low-pressure environment. This approach has contributed to its appeal among a wide age range of players.
Grow a Garden has become the most played video game in history by peak concurrent users, reaching 16.4 million players at its highest point. Developed by a 16-year-old solo creator on Roblox, the game's success underscores the influence of user-generated content and independent development in today's gaming environment. As digital platforms continue to evolve, the record set by Grow a Garden offers a clear indication of how player engagement is shifting across the industry.
