Confiction Labs, the developer behind the cooperative roguelite shooter game Riftstorm, has launched an innovative verification process called Proof of Exposure. This system, designed to integrate seamlessly with the in-game lore, is part of a broader strategy to combat the growing problem of botting in web3 gaming. By verifying and rewarding genuine users, Confiction Labs aims to ensure that the immersive gaming experience is preserved for real players.

Formerly known as Mythic Protocol, Confiction Labs is a leading software and entertainment company pioneering Collaborative Entertainment. The company is committed to involving users in the creation of immersive digital experiences.
The company employs over 120 gaming veterans who have worked on renowned titles such as Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Fairy Tail, and Legends of Runeterra. Their first game, Riftstorm, a multiplayer co-op looter-shooter action RPG with roguelite elements, has seen significant success in early playtests.
The next playtest is scheduled for Q4 2024, with a commercial launch planned for 2025. Arief Widhiyasa, CEO of Confiction Labs, emphasized the dual purpose of Proof of Exposure, stating in a press release:
“Proof of Exposure is not only a safeguard against bots but a way for the community to immerse themselves in the narrative of the Occultical universe. A system like this ensures that passionate and committed community members are the ones who help shape our IPs moving forward. We want to build Occultical together with real audiences through verified achievements, honoring the authenticity and creativity that are core to Collaborative Entertainment.”
Collaborative Entertainment
Proof of Exposure is an advanced verification method that selects the most suitable community members to further the storyline of games within the Occultical universe, including Riftstorm. To gain access to the allowlist, users must apply for security clearance through the Mythic Protocol, a secretive organization within the game's universe.
Applicants are required to provide evidence of their past achievements, which are evaluated to determine their eligibility. This deep profiling system considers various factors such as influence, vocation, gaming achievements, on-chain value, and creativity.
Those who achieve the highest scores in this rigorous verification process will be granted access to mint NFTs from the upcoming XPSR-24 collection, which is intricately linked to the FICT ONE: Occultical universe created by Confiction Labs. Holders of these NFTs will represent humanity’s elite, tasked with joining a restricted program to combat cosmic and eldritch creatures known as mythics.

The rise of bots in web3 gaming has been a significant challenge, with rewards meant for genuine community members often being siphoned off to non-human accounts. According to a study by web3 marketing platform Cookie3, 70% of airdrops are typically claimed by bot accounts, while bot prevention service provider Jigger reports that 40% of users in web3 services, including NFT allowlists and games, have been identified as bots.
With the increasing market cap of blockchain games, Confiction Labs recognized the need for a robust system to prevent bots from undermining the gaming experience. Proof of Exposure addresses this issue by requiring participants to undergo a comprehensive verification process. This process utilizes third-party APIs, large language models (LLMs), data queries, and user-submitted data to ensure that only genuine human participants are able to join the FICT ONE community.
The Third Wave of Gaming Innovation
Proof of Exposure is more than just a bot prevention measure; it is a key component of Confiction Labs’ vision for Collaborative Entertainment. This vision encourages players to actively contribute to the development of the gaming world. Players can submit user-generated content, such as writing, art, and music, which could be incorporated into the game’s lore or future updates.
Additionally, player actions during in-game events will influence how the story progresses, further embedding the community into the narrative. The XPSR-24 NFTs also feature innovative mechanics, such as the ability to level up and evolve through questing. Holders of these NFTs can collectively participate in quests, with those possessing higher-level NFTs potentially qualifying for additional rewards in the future.
XPSR-24 NFTs
The application process for XPSR-24 is currently in its third week, with interested individuals able to apply through the Confiction Labs Portal. In the first week, Confiction Labs introduced Proof of Humanity, a verification stage that authenticates applicants by linking their social accounts, and Proof of Network, which evaluates their ability to build communities around the Occultical universe. These initial stages are also deeply rooted in Riftstorm's lore, where members of XPSR-24 must demonstrate their humanity and establish global networks to support their mission.

Through the introduction of Proof of Exposure, Confiction Labs is setting a new standard for integrity and community engagement in web3 gaming. By prioritizing real user achievements and fostering deeper involvement in the game’s narrative, this system not only combats the growing issue of botting but also enhances the player experience in Riftstorm’s FICT ONE: Occultical universe.
As the application process for the XPSR-24 NFT collection continues, Confiction Labs remains committed to its vision of Collaborative Entertainment, ensuring that the future of its games and IPs is shaped by genuine, passionate players. More information is available here.
