In recent developments, Pixels, the popular crypto game, is gearing up for significant expansion beyond its current offerings. Founded by Luke Barwikowski, the studio has been a key player in the crypto gaming space, especially after migrating to Ethereum's Ronin network and launching its own token earlier this year.
Pixels offers an engaging open-ended world where players can immerse themselves in farming, resource gathering, and exploration. The game is designed to blend blockchain ownership with player progression and achievements.
Players advance their skills, build relationships, and unravel stories and quests within the Pixels Universe. With a focus on accessibility and fun, Pixels aims to be the "gateway for millions into the world of web3 gaming". The game is built on the Ronin blockchain and is currently playable via browser.
In an interview coinciding with the launch of Pixels Chapter 2, Luke Barwikowski revealed that the studio is actively collaborating with external teams to develop new games set in the Pixels universe. Despite its core team consisting of about 19 full-time employees, Pixels is outsourcing development to external studios while retaining control over blockchain integration and user acquisition strategies.
"We're enthusiastic about the possibilities for adding additional games to the Pixels universe. There are some exciting developments ahead, and we're considering the idea of introducing a game on Telegram as an experimental project."

The interest in Telegram stems from its growing crypto gaming ecosystem, highlighted by the recent success of games like Notcoin and Hamster Kombat, which attracted millions of players and significant attention globally. Barwikowski emphasized that while the idea of a Telegram-based project is in its infancy, the studio sees it as an intriguing opportunity due to Telegram's unique user base and growing ecosystem.
The Telegram-based crypto game Hamster Kombat has seen a significant rise in popularity, now boasting over 150 million players. This figure marks a 50% increase from just a couple of weeks ago. Other Telegram-based games with token airdrop plans, such as Tapswap and Yescoin, have announced their impending launches on the TON blockchain, seeking to replicate Hamster Kombat’s success.

Pixels' strategy also includes developing a comprehensive lore bible to expand its intellectual property (IP) and lay the groundwork for future apps and experiments. Barwikowski outlined plans for new mobile games with incentivized downloads, aiming to further cement Pixels' position as a pioneer in the play-to-earn crypto gaming model.
"Through our latest updates and expansions, like Chapter 2, we aim to showcase not just the feasibility of play-to-earn models in 2024, but also to pioneer in this rapidly evolving industry," commented Barwikowski.

Over the next 3-9 months, Pixels plans to optimize player retention and fine-tune incentive structures. Once stabilized, the goal is to scale the player base to 7 million, with an ultimate target of 50 million players. Regular updates and player feedback will continue to shape the game's development, ensuring it remains at the forefront of web3 gaming innovation.
"Our goal is to establish the largest web3 casual games company, with an ambitious vision of attracting 50 million players globally. Our team is dedicated to developing a variety of gaming experiences and is actively seeking growth opportunities through acquisitions and partnerships with existing games."
