Twitch’s 2024 report highlights GTA V’s continued dominance and the growing influence of VTubers, shaping the global streaming landscape.
Twitch has published its report on viewership and engagement for 2024, providing a detailed overview of the games and content that shaped the platform over the past year. Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) continued its long-standing success as the most popular game streamed on Twitch. According to the most recent data, GTA V content creators streamed the title for over 25.8 million hours, while viewers watched the game for more than 1.4 billion hours.
League of Legends followed closely behind, with 1.19 billion hours watched, and remained particularly popular in regions such as Germany and France. Other widely watched titles included Valorant, Fortnite, and Call of Duty, reflecting the ongoing influence of esports within Twitch’s broader content ecosystem. Over all more than 15.6 billion hours of gaming content has been watch globally on the platform throughout 2024.
Twitch: Over 15 Billion Hours Of Gaming Content Watched
Twitch’s 2024 report also highlighted the increasing prominence of VTubers on the platform. There was a 10 percent increase in hours watched for VTuber streams compared to the previous year. British VTubers experienced the most significant growth, with a 200 percent increase in hours watched. Despite this strong performance in the United Kingdom, VTubers maintained their strongest audiences in the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom. This trend reflects a broader shift in viewer interests, with audiences showing a growing preference for virtual content creators alongside traditional streamers.
In addition to ongoing trends in gaming and VTubing, Twitch also reported strong engagement with major live events hosted by prominent creators. Notable examples included Kai Cenat’s 30-day Subathon and Ibai’s boxing event, both of which drew large audiences and widespread attention. These events demonstrate Twitch’s expanding role as a platform for a variety of live experiences, extending beyond its original focus on gaming to include broader forms of digital entertainment.
The sustained success of Grand Theft Auto V suggests a strong foundation for the launch of its successor, Grand Theft Auto VI, expected later this year. GTA V has long been known for fostering creative roleplay experiences both within its main storyline and through GTA Online. With a substantial and dedicated audience already in place, Grand Theft Auto VI is anticipated to attract significant attention upon its release, potentially influencing Twitch’s streaming trends in the near future.
Twitch: Over 15 Billion Hours Of Gaming Content Watched
Twitch reported that it holds a 60 percent share of the global gaming livestream audience, with viewers consuming more than 15.6 billion hours of content on the platform throughout 2024. These figures underline Twitch’s leading role in the global streaming market, supported by the continued success of established games, the rise of new content genres such as VTubing, and the platform’s ability to host large-scale live events. As Twitch moves forward, these trends will likely play an important role in shaping the direction of online streaming, including emerging sectors such as web3 integration and virtual entertainment formats.
