Off The Grid Introduces Ranked Mode

Gunzilla Games has announced that Ranked Mode will launch in Off The Grid (OTG) this December, bringing a structured competitive system to the cyberpunk-themed shooter. The new feature will allow players to engage in skill-based matchmaking and earn exclusive rewards while separating competitive and casual gameplay experiences. The update is part of OTG’s ongoing December patch, which also introduces other quality-of-life improvements for players.

Web3 Cyberpunk Shooter

Off The Grid is a fast-paced, cyberpunk shooter set on Teardrop Island. The game features high-speed movement, modular limb-swapping, and a player-driven item economy. Players enter televised Extraction Royale (XR) matches equipped with jetpacks, cyberware, and swappable limbs, all of which can be looted, traded on the GUNZ marketplace, or sold via OpenSea, incorporating elements of web3.

While the game’s 60-hour story campaign is still in development, PvP gameplay is already available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Gunzilla Games, founded in 2020 by industry veterans including filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, has raised significant funding to support OTG and its blockchain integration, securing $46 million in 2022 and an additional $30 million in 2024.

Off The Grid Introduces Ranked Mode

Ranked Mode introduces a more competitive approach to OTG’s XR gameplay. Players will be matched based on skill, with entry fees paid in rank points. Performance in matches will determine rank progression, with higher tiers requiring stronger results to avoid demotion.

The system also ties into HEX loot, the game’s core extraction reward, offering higher-quality rewards for top-ranked players. Ranked participants can also earn exclusive cosmetics, profile badges, and other items that can be equipped or sold on the GUNZ marketplace. In addition, XP multipliers and enhanced gun earnings encourage regular participation in competitive matches.

Casual XR will remain available for players seeking a less competitive experience. This mode focuses on campaign progression, cooperative play, and general inventory growth, providing normal loot and XP without ranking pressure. By separating competitive and casual gameplay, Gunzilla aims to accommodate both high-level players and those new to the game.

Ranked Mode vs Casual Mode

Ranked Mode is not immediately available to new players. To enter, participants must first complete several matches in Casual Mode to level up and gain experience. Players are also required to set up a custom loadout before joining Ranked XR, ensuring that everyone has a competitive kit from the start.

The ranking system operates on two-month seasonal cycles with soft resets, allowing players to retain part of their progress while encouraging renewed competition. The game will also implement penalties for players who leave matches early, helping maintain fair play and reducing griefing. A dedicated leaderboard is planned to allow players to track their rank and compare progress with others.

Gunzilla Games has emphasized that Ranked Mode will continue to evolve after launch. While the initial system is scheduled for December, developers are open to adjusting match flow, HEX balancing, and other elements based on player feedback. The studio encourages the community to test the new mode and contribute to shaping future updates.
