Nintendo is set to launch the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, and market analysts suggest the console could achieve record-breaking sales. A recent report by DFC Intelligence presents a comprehensive analysis of potential consumer demand, drawing on survey data from both high-end PC users and current PlayStation and Xbox owners.
Despite the delay in preorders, Nintendo stated that the pricing for the Switch 2 console and its key launch titles will remain unchanged. The standard version of the Switch 2 will retail for $450. A bundle option that includes the racing game Mario Kart World will be available for $500. Mario Kart World itself will be priced at $80 when purchased separately, while Donkey Kong Bananza will be available for $70. These price points are consistent with Nintendo’s previous announcements and reflect the company’s decision to maintain stability for consumers amid broader economic shifts.
Which Platform Do You Own and Use To Play Games
The analysis included an in-depth survey of 600 high-end PC users, with 55% of respondents aged over 35. Within this group, 44% reported owning and actively using a Nintendo Switch as a secondary device. While PC remains their primary platform, many value the Switch for its portability and exclusive game library. The survey also noted that owning both a high-end gaming PC and a PlayStation 5 is less common, reported by only 23% of respondents.
A separate group of over 1,000 PlayStation and Xbox owners was also surveyed. Among them, 83% reported playing on more than one platform at least once per week. Within this multi-platform audience, 67% indicated they currently use a Nintendo Switch. Additionally, 61% of PlayStation and Xbox users surveyed expressed a positive attitude toward the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, suggesting there is significant interest in the new console from users already active across multiple gaming systems.
Current PlayStation and Xbox Users Attitude Toward Switch 2
DFC Intelligence initially forecasted that Nintendo would sell 17 million units of the Switch 2 in 2025. However, the firm later revised this figure down to 15 million units, citing expectations of a 20% price increase in the U.S. market within two years following the console’s launch. It is important to note that this adjustment was made before Nintendo officially announced that the launch price in the United States would remain unchanged.
Despite the anticipated price shift, DFC Intelligence does not view game pricing as a significant barrier to adoption. The firm believes that Nintendo’s flexible pricing strategies for software will allow it to continue meeting the preferences of its diverse customer base.
Nintendo Hardware Sales by Fiscal Year
If Nintendo reaches the revised projection of 15 million units sold in the first year, the Switch 2 could become the fastest-selling console in history. DFC Intelligence emphasizes that this outcome would surpass the launch performance of the original Nintendo Switch. The company points to the console’s appeal across various gaming communities and the increasing trend of users engaging with more than one platform as contributing factors.
Nintendo’s strategy appears to reflect broader changes in gaming behavior. With players valuing access to exclusive content and portable gameplay options alongside traditional home systems, the Nintendo Switch 2 is positioned to perform strongly in a competitive market. These factors, combined with consistent brand recognition and an established user base, support the outlook presented in DFC Intelligence’s report.
