Nintendo Direct 2025 highlights the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary with new titles for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, including Super Mario Galaxy, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and more.
Nintendo hosted a new Nintendo Direct presentation on September 13, 2025, to mark the beginning of the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary celebrations. The presentation featured a wide range of upcoming titles for both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, with releases planned throughout the remainder of 2025 and into 2026. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, opened the presentation by outlining various activities to commemorate the milestone, originally launched in Japan on September 13, 1985.

As part of the anniversary, Nintendo confirmed that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be released digitally and as a combined physical edition on Nintendo Switch starting October 2, 2025. Both games will include updated resolution, motion and button controls, and a free 4K update for Nintendo Switch 2.
Two amiibo figures, Mario & Luma and Rosalina & Lumas, will also be released in April 2026, offering in-game bonuses. Additionally, a new animated film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, was announced with a worldwide release scheduled for April 3, 2026. Visitors to the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto will have access to a 40th anniversary light display, special ticket designs, and an exhibition of Super Mario illustrations and pixel art.

The Nintendo Direct also introduced a wide array of new games and updates from Nintendo and its global development partners. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave was highlighted as the next entry in the Fire Emblem series, featuring an intertwined story and turn-based tactical gameplay, set for release on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was detailed, with players controlling Samus as she explores the planet Viewros using psychic abilities and advanced equipment. This title will launch for both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on December 4, 2025, accompanied by new amiibo figures.
Nintendo also provided information on Pokémon Pokopia, a game where players transform into a Ditto to shape habitats and expand a Pokémon paradise, scheduled for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush, a paid DLC expansion, will introduce new gameplay modes and collectible items for Nintendo Switch 2. Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension will offer additional story content and new Mega Evolutions, releasing simultaneously on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on October 16, 2025.

Additional Nintendo Direct announcements included new content for ongoing franchises and multiplayer-focused experiences. Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will introduce a hub in Bellabel Park and new multiplayer activities in spring 2026. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, featuring a new narrative-driven adventure, is scheduled for spring 2026.
Sports fans can anticipate Mario Tennis Fever, which will offer 38 playable characters and new motion control features, launching February 12, 2026. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment will allow cooperative combat and strategic gameplay in the Zelda universe, releasing November 6, 2025, for Nintendo Switch 2.
Other titles presented include Resident Evil Requiem, offering a survival horror experience on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27, 2026, and Hades II – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, an action-focused roguelike with cross-save support between consoles and PC, launching digitally in September 2025. Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is scheduled for March 13, 2026, while Suika Game Planet, a puzzle game with co-op features, will release in winter 2025.

The presentation also covered several remakes and enhanced editions for Nintendo Switch 2, including Stardew Valley: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE, DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS, FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE, and Overcooked! 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Additionally, ONE PIECE: PIRATE WARRIORS 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, and select Nintendo Classics were showcased. New accessories, including Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics support, and amiibo functionality for multiple titles were also discussed.
