Nexon, through its web3-focused subsidiary Nexpace, has initiated the second playtest for Maplestory N, the first game in the upcoming MapleStory Universe. The playtest, running from November 20 to 29, 2024, marks a significant step toward the game’s anticipated 2025 launch. Unlike the first playtest held in July, which had limited participation, this test is open to a broader audience, though access remains restricted to specific regions.

MapleStory Universe represents an expansive virtual world ecosystem designed to host a variety of applications built on the longstanding MapleStory IP, which has captivated more than 250 million players worldwide. Supported by two decades of live operations and a vibrant community, MapleStory Universe offers players a unique opportunity to engage with game elements enhanced by blockchain technology, promoting creativity, collaboration, and community interaction within a structured digital space.
Through the implementation of blockchain, NEXPACE aims to support a seamless and dynamic user experience where in-game items and assets are securely managed, creating an ecosystem that is both engaging and adaptable to the evolving needs of its player base. The long-standing success of MapleStory’s global community is a foundation upon which MapleStory Universe seeks to build, adding innovative blockchain features that offer new dimensions of user interaction and value.

The playtest includes access to key ecosystem applications: the MapleStory Universe Marketplace and the Explorer platform. These complementary apps enable players to explore, trade, and engage with the broader web3 ecosystem tied to the game.
Participants in the November playtest have the opportunity to earn a range of in-game rewards, including:
Additionally, users can vie for a share of 5,000,000 NXPC, the native token of the MapleStory Universe ecosystem.
Nexpace will use the playtest to gather critical data on various aspects of the game and ecosystem. Key areas of focus include user experience, transaction volume, and in-game economic activity. Insights gained during this period will help refine the gameplay, economic systems, and web3 integration ahead of the 2025 release.
2nd Pioneer Test
Maplestory N represents Nexon’s broader ambition to merge the familiarity of legacy gaming with the innovation of blockchain technology. In a July 2024 interview, Sunyoung Hwang, executive director of Nexpace, shared insights into the development of Maplestory N and the MapleStory Universe, emphasizing the company’s commitment to creating a seamless web3 experience for both new and existing fans.
This second playtest serves as a significant milestone, allowing players to preview the future of the franchise while helping the developers shape its evolution. Fans of MapleStory and enthusiasts of web3 gaming can look forward to the game’s official launch in 2025.
