Nexon Names Patrick Söderlund Executive Chairman

Japanese publisher Nexon has appointed Patrick Söderlund as its executive chairman, effective immediately. In the newly created position, Söderlund will lead the company’s long-term strategy, global creative direction, and development framework. The role establishes a leadership model in which Söderlund focuses on strategic planning while Nexon’s president and CEO, Junghun Lee, manages day-to-day execution.

Söderlund will continue to serve as CEO of Embark Studios, the Nexon subsidiary known for ARC Raiders. The company has scheduled a Capital Markets Briefing on March 31, 2026, to outline its next phase of growth and strategic priorities.

Strategic Vision and Leadership Background

Söderlund first joined Nexon’s board in 2018 after the company invested in Embark Studios. He has previously held senior roles in the gaming industry, including Executive Vice President of Worldwide Studios at Electronic Arts and CEO of DICE, the studio behind Battlefield and Mirror’s Edge.

In a statement, Söderlund said, “Nexon has all the assets to unleash dramatic growth — talented people, iconic franchises, large and committed player communities, and best-in-class live service capabilities. This is an enormous opportunity, but one that will require deep focus and discipline. Junghun and I are aligned on what needs to happen, and I’m ready to get to work.” Lee added, “Patrick and I are fully aligned on transforming Nexon. He has built studios, attracted top industry talent, and shipped major global hits. That’s exactly what Nexon needs right now.”

Implications for Nexon’s Global Operations

The appointment signals Nexon’s continued commitment to expanding its global footprint and strengthening creative leadership. The company recently hired Hyo Sun Kim as lead public relations manager for Nexon America, highlighting an ongoing focus on international operations and communications. With Söderlund guiding strategy and Lee overseeing execution, Nexon aims to leverage its existing franchises while exploring new creative initiatives.

The March Capital Markets Briefing is expected to provide more detailed information on the company’s upcoming projects, growth plans, and strategic priorities.
