Tainted Studios, a new studio founded by developers with backgrounds in major titles from Blizzard and Activision, has announced its first project, V.O.I.D.. The game is a team-based, player-versus-environment (PvE) survival experience set in a grim dark fantasy world. Designed to emphasize cooperation, strategy, and execution, V.O.I.D. introduces a new approach not only to gameplay but also to how games are distributed and monetized using web3 technologies.

Set in a collapsing world plagued by a force known as "The Void", V.O.I.D. places players in 3-player teams that must survive escalating waves of enemies controlled by artificial intelligence. Each match is designed to test player coordination and tactical decision-making through item builds, champion abilities, and shifting battlefield conditions.
In an interview with GamesBeat, Tainted Studios CEO Daniel Paez, said the game draws inspiration from titles like Left 4 Dead and Diablo, combining fast-paced survival mechanics with deep strategic systems. Players will assume the roles of six unique champions, each bearing corrupted powers from ancient realms. These characters are trapped within Urzula’s Bastion, a dynamic map where the enemy types, loot, and lanes change with every play through.

One of the most notable aspects of V.O.I.D. is its distribution model. Rather than relying on traditional game stores or platforms, Tainted Studios is using tokenized licenses that act as access passes to the game. These licenses can be traded or sold by players and creators, turning distribution into a decentralized ecosystem. This model gives communities and content creators a role in promoting and monetizing the game, effectively turning them into stakeholders. Paez said the goal is to give players ownership from the beginning and to open new opportunities for involvement beyond gameplay.
Co-founders Daniel Paez and Montgomery Guilhaus have worked on several prominent game franchises, including Call of Duty, Diablo, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft. Paez also has a strong background in web3 gaming, having previously led projects at Immutable such as Gods Unchained.
After leaving Immutable, Paez consulted for multiple blockchain games, gaining insights into the challenges and common practices in the sector. He emphasized the need to move beyond repetitive models in blockchain gaming, where many projects follow similar patterns centered on play-to-earn mechanics and token speculation.

Paez expressed concern about the current state of the web3 gaming industry, describing a trend of companies focusing on short-term gains without building sustainable products. He pointed out that many studios are still targeting a narrow audience of roughly 2.5 million active web3 players who are motivated by token rewards.
While this market can be financially rewarding, Paez argued that it is not scalable for broader success. He also highlighted the emergence of "zombie companies"—studios that raised capital during earlier boom periods but have failed to deliver working products or meaningful user engagement.
While Paez acknowledged the potential of blockchain to enable new forms of collaboration and ownership, he noted that its benefits are often underutilized. He explained that decentralization can allow other developers to build on top of a game’s intellectual property, but many companies still try to retain centralized control.
According to Paez, this contradiction limits the effectiveness of on-chain systems. He stressed that the blockchain component in V.O.I.D. is designed to support gameplay and distribution rather than dominate the experience. Players who purchase a game license will own an ERC-20 token that grants access, similar to buying a digital copy through a traditional platform.

Tainted Studios is actively developing V.O.I.D. and plans to launch a Founder’s Edition pre-sale in the near future. The studio is also encouraging early engagement from players, content creators, and streamers to shape the game’s mechanics and direction. A Discord channel has been launched to foster community involvement, and the team is focused on building the core systems that will support gameplay and live operations. The studio views this early engagement as essential for gathering feedback and generating interest before launch.
The studio aims to reach players through a grassroots model that leverages word of mouth and creator partnerships. Paez noted that many games struggle with live operations and long-term engagement after launch. By allowing anyone to distribute the game through tokenized licenses, Tainted Studios hopes to create a more flexible and resilient model. The game’s core loop centers on survival, teamwork, and loot extraction, and while it includes web3 elements such as NFT equipment, the focus remains on gameplay rather than speculative trading.
