The PvP combat arena game Moonray: Battle Lands will launch its closed beta on Steam on Saturday, May 10. This version marks the game’s debut on the platform and brings a series of updates and technical improvements aimed at refining the gameplay experience. Previously available on the Epic Games Store, Moonray is returning with changes designed to enhance both performance and player engagement.
Moonray: Battle Lands Beta Coming to Steam
Moonray: Battle Lands is a third-person PvP combat arena game set in a science fantasy environment. Players compete in fast-paced melee-based battles across floating islands and dynamic arenas. The game features several modes including Duel Mode (1v1), Team Deathmatch (4v4), and Deathmatch (free-for-all with up to eight players), as well as objective-based challenges that require capturing points and completing specific tasks.
The combat system is skill-based, rewarding timing and precision, while environmental elements such as collapsing bridges and explosive barrels introduce additional strategic layers. Although the Steam version will not include any web3 features, those interested in exploring the blockchain-enabled version can access it on the Epic Games Store. In that version, cosmetic items and skins exist as NFTs, but players are not required to connect a wallet in order to play, keeping the web3 aspects entirely optional.
The game has also announced future platform expansions. A PlayStation 5 release is scheduled for 2025, and an Xbox Series X version is expected later this year. These developments follow a successful $10 million funding round, which is being used to support the game’s continued growth and development.

The closed beta build of Moonray: Battle Lands introduces a number of new features and adjustments. According to a recent post by the development team on social media, players will encounter a set of reimagined Heroes, which suggests a rebalancing and redesign of previously available characters. This rework is likely aimed at improving third-person combat dynamics and ensuring fairer, more strategic gameplay. Alongside these revamped Heroes, two new characters—Zol Jei and Getz’l Nok—will be added. Each comes with a new weapon: a hammer and a healing blaster, respectively, offering players fresh ways to engage in battle.
On the technical side, the update includes backend improvements, such as the integration of Mover 2.0 and Motion Matching. These systems are designed to create a smoother, more responsive combat experience. The game will also feature new arenas, which are expected to diversify the tactical options available to players. Progression within the game will be supported by a new battle pass titled “Path of Trial,” which includes new unlockables and gameplay incentives. Another notable addition is full controller support, a feature that enhances accessibility for players who prefer to game using console-style controls. Cosmetic customization options have also been expanded, offering players more ways to personalize their in-game appearance.
Participation in the Steam closed beta will require signing up through an application form. As of now, the form has not been made public, but developers have advised the community to monitor Moonray’s official social media platforms for updates. With the closed beta starting May 10, players interested in early access are encouraged to act promptly once the sign-up becomes available. Additionally, an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session is scheduled for Thursday, May 15, at 10 AM CST on the game's official Discord server. This event will provide players with more details about the closed beta and future plans for the game.
In the meantime, players can wishlist Moonray: Battle Lands on Steam to support visibility and potentially improve their chances of being selected for the closed beta. Moonray’s closed beta on Steam represents a significant step in its multi-platform rollout and ongoing refinement. With new content and updated systems, the upcoming launch provides both new and returning players an opportunity to engage with the game in a fresh way.
