Moonfrost Early Access now includes web3 features, letting players craft Frost Tools, earn CRYO, and prepare for future $FROST token rewards. Learn how the blockchain economy works in the farming RPG.
Moonfrost Early Access has introduced web3 features, marking the activation of the game’s blockchain-powered economy. With this update, players are now able to use Mystery Box items inside the game, craft Frost Tools, and begin earning CRYO, an off-chain soft currency that can later be redeemed for rewards such as Mystery Boxes and $FROST tokens.
The launch of these features comes more than a month after Moonfrost entered Early Access, following a period focused on server stability and addressing early issues. The addition of blockchain integration represents the next step in the development of the game’s economic layer.
Moonfrost Early Access Details
Moonfrost is a free-to-play farming RPG designed around cozy, seasonal progression combined with resource management, exploration, and homebuilding. Players can carry out daily activities such as planting crops, chopping trees, mining ores, clearing debris, and fishing while advancing through story-driven quests. The isometric design, combined with a cast of non-playable characters and a detailed construction system, allows players to build and customize homes and villages.
The game moved into Early Access on July 16 after several months of alpha testing. Access is currently limited to Gnome Key holders and Frost Hunter License owners through the Open Loot Launcher. Although the developers initially planned to transition to a free-to-play release after about one month, the NFT-gated phase remains ongoing with no confirmed date for when it will become openly available. Once the full release takes place, Moonfrost will be free to download on the Epic Games Store for Windows PC, with a mobile version also planned.
Early Access introduced a number of new gameplay features including fishing, cooking, an expanded map, an order system, and village rebuilding. The latest update now adds the optional web3 layer that offers players the chance to experience the blockchain side of the economy while continuing to enjoy the farming and exploration elements of the game.

The update released on September 3 activated the core web3 features of Moonfrost. Mystery Box items can now be used in the game and players are able to craft Frost Tools for the first time. These tools make it possible to earn CRYO, an off-chain currency that was previously known as SHARDS. Mystery Boxes may contain items such as Frost Workbenches, FROSTprints, Luck Charms, Liquid Luck, and Gnome or Access Keys. By using these items, players can craft Frost Tools that not only grant the ability to earn CRYO but also provide upgrade points for improving other assets.
CRYO is a non-tradable soft currency that will eventually be replaced by $FROST when the token becomes live. The developers have indicated that this may take place after the token generation event, which is currently expected in the final quarter of 2025. Once $FROST is introduced, players will no longer be able to earn CRYO through gameplay, but any CRYO already accumulated will remain in their accounts and can still be redeemed for rewards such as Mystery Boxes or tokens.

The earning system in Moonfrost is centered on the use of Frost Tools and the accumulation of CRYO. Frost Tools come in the form of axes, pickaxes, and fishing rods, each with a Luck attribute that influences the chance of receiving higher rewards. Tools of greater rarity carry higher Luck values, increasing their efficiency and reward potential.
Crafting a Frost Tool requires several components. Players need a base tool such as a stone, copper, silver, or gold version. In addition, they must use a FROSTprint and a Frost Workbench, both of which are NFT assets that can be obtained through Mystery Boxes or the marketplace. Liquid Luck is also required to complete the crafting process, functioning as a premium but non-tradable currency. For example, creating a Legendary Frost Pickaxe demands a Legendary FROSTprint, a Legendary Frost Workbench, a base pickaxe, and at least 175 units of Liquid Luck.

Once crafted, Frost Tools provide upgrade points that can be used to improve FROSTprints, Workbenches, and Luck Charms. These upgrades can involve merging duplicate items, spending additional Liquid Luck, or using $FROST tokens once they become available. This system allows players to gradually improve their tools and increase the efficiency of their earning activities.
Players who participate in the system during Early Access can build up CRYO, which may later be converted into blockchain-based rewards or used in-game. The developers have also noted that spending CRYO within the game could provide better long-term value than exchanging it directly for $FROST, though both options will remain available.

At present, participation in Moonfrost Early Access requires a Gnome Key. Each account must have one key, and the supply is capped at 8,000. Gnome Keys are currently available on the Open Loot Marketplace, with a floor price of around $3.10 at the time of writing.
Moonfrost is downloadable via the Open Loot Launcher, and an installation guide is provided for new players. While web3 features are now active, engaging with them is optional. The game can still be enjoyed fully as a traditional farming RPG without using the blockchain layer.
Moonfrost Early Access Details
The activation of web3 features in Moonfrost Early Access marks a significant milestone in the game’s development. With CRYO earning, Frost Tool crafting, and Mystery Box integration now available, the foundation of the blockchain economy is in place. These features provide players with a preview of the upcoming play-to-earn system that will eventually center around the $FROST token.
For now, Moonfrost continues to combine its farming and exploration gameplay with an optional web3 layer, giving players the freedom to choose whether they want to engage with blockchain systems or focus on the RPG experience.
