Fortnite legend Mongraal teams up with OpenSea to bring web3 gaming to the mainstream, pushing for true player ownership, NFT utility, and blockchain-powered play.
Kyle “Mongraal” Jackson, Fortnite prodigy, Twitch sensation, and one of the most dominant FPS players of his generation has officially teamed up with OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace. The announcement marks a massive moment not only for Mongraal but also for the evolving intersection of competitive gaming and blockchain.
Mongraal is no stranger to leading the pack. Rising to fame early, Kyle quickly became a household name in the Fortnite esports scene, but his first real taste of Web3 came in early 2023 with Yuga Labs' Dookey Dash, a skill-based, NFT-powered game that challenged players to navigate a wild sewer run to earn high scores. Mongraal didn’t just participate, he dominated the global leaderboard and clinched the coveted one-of-one “Golden Key” NFT on February 16, 2023.
That NFT wasn’t just a trophy, it became a headline-making moment in web3 gaming. Less than two weeks later, on February 27, 2023, Mongraal sold the Golden Key for 1,000 ETH (worth around $1.63 million at the time) to billionaire Adam Weitsman, beating out massive offers from other bidders like 9GAG’s Memeland and United Planets DAO.
It was one of the largest direct player-earned NFT sales in Web3 history, and a powerful case study for how competitive gaming skills could translate into real-world crypto value.
In a blog post published by OpenSea, Mongraal shared how he became increasingly fascinated by player ownership, digital permanence, and the potential of decentralized gaming economies. He was drawn to the idea that in Web3, players truly own their achievements, not the platforms.
“If a game gets shut down or if your account gets banned, everything you earned shouldn’t disappear,” Mongraal explains. “With NFTs, your items stay yours. That’s powerful.”
As part of his new partnership with OpenSea, Mongraal aims to educate and inspire more gamers to explore the benefits of blockchain-based gaming, from verifiable ownership to asset interoperability and monetization of skill.
For OpenSea, this collaboration is a chance to grow its reach in the competitive and creator-driven gaming world. For Mongraal, it’s an opportunity to lead the charge in redefining how players interact with digital assets, beyond just skins and loot boxes. This partnership reinforces the idea that web3 gaming is not a future concept; it’s already happening.
While Mongraal continues streaming and competing, he’s also exploring crypto, blockchain education, and new gaming experiments. In the coming months, expect content, collabs, and deeper integration with web3-native games & platforms.
