Our inaugural GAM3 Awards features over 30 members on its jury to help recognize the best "gam3s" in each of the 16 categories. The event takes place on December 15, and will be livestreamed across all our socials. It is time to get everyone familiar with each member of our jury. We got the opportunity to sit down with each of them to ask them a set questions to help you get to know them more personally, their favorite gaming moment growing up, what pushed them to make the jump into web3 gaming, and their outlook on the future of blockchain gaming.
Playconomy is a web3 gaming show hosted by Bekahtron and Ryannosaurus_Wrecks. As funny as that latter username is, Ryan Day is one of the most enjoyable people to listen to on various topics within blockchain gaming on the show's episodes. On top of that, he acts as the Sales Director at Blockworks, a reputable crypto and web3 media outlet with insightful research reports and breaking news.
We sat down with Ryan to go over his favorite gaming memory growing up, how he accidentally entered web3 due to being laid off because of COVID-19 layoffs, and the mission he has set out to deliver with Playconomy in providing proper exposure to web3 games outside of our own world onto traditional gamers.
Either doing a zergling rush for a fast win in Starcraft, or mining the most limestone in Town Star to win the May Madness event. The first kicked off my love for RTS and Moba games, the next kicked off my foray into Web3 gaming.
I fell ass backwards into the industry after getting laid off from COVID-19. The more I learned, the more I realized what was being built. Gaming has always been in my life, keeping me close with my friends through the years, even to today. So when NFTs became popular, the first time I really understood why the tech was so powerful was through games. Ever since, I’ve been more bullish than Ferdinand on the industry.
This is the first time players and the community for a game have a true and direct line to the game developers. This line of communication is more robust than it ever has been and is going to give the ability for games to create more engaging content and game loops built with players in mind first - because they get to weigh in on the direction.
One of the biggest challenges facing games with Web3 elements is that everyone thinks “these games aren’t fun.” Playconomy’s mission is to show that there is a game for everyone in Web3, that gives you the ability to take ownership or governance in the future of the game.
Finding their way into the afterschool gaming sessions, the sweaty players who eat, breath, and drink video games. When you’re not just having the top tier esports players competing, but you’re dunking on your best friends, that’s when we’ll start to see wave after wave of adoption.
Do you agree with Ryan's views on web3 gaming opening up this direct line of communication between game developers and their community? Share this article and tag us on any of our socials to let us know.
