Get to meet GAM3 Awards jury member Alex Wettermann from Shima Capital and know their proudest gaming moment, future of web3 gaming, and more.
Our inaugural GAM3 Awards features over 30 members on its jury to help recognize the best "gam3s" in each of the 16 categories. The event takes place on December 15, and will be livestreamed across all our socials. It is time to get everyone familiar with each member of our jury. We got the opportunity to sit down with each of them to ask them a set questions to help you get to know them more personally, their favorite gaming moment growing up, what pushed them to make the jump into web3 gaming, and their outlook on the future of blockchain gaming.
Shima Capital is arguably one of the most recognizable names in the space, not just because of their active investment strategy but their focus on gaming and leveraging their experience to push the web3 gaming industry forward. Alex Wettermann, the Head of Gaming and Metaverse division, is a member of our GAM3 Awards jury and managed to give us a piece of his time to go over his proudest gaming moment and how Shima Capital plans to continue being involved in shaping the future of blockchain gaming.
Where do I start… the COD Zombie LAN parties, first LoL pentakill (Corki mid), winning Gears of War gamebattles tournaments, the list goes on. My favorite moments cut across a wide array of games, but proudest is likely the ability to log on regularly with an ever growing crew of the past decade to fill squads for whichever game is our flavor of the month.
Another good one. Studied cryptography and data security back in the day, been a gamer my entire life, and these two worlds collided rather serendipitously. I am obsessed with web3 generally, but with the rate at which this industry is growing, forcing myself to focus on gaming specifically as I can’t stop thinking about it!
Everything. The new experiences, the close alignment between devs and players, studios embracing open and transparent development that enables tight feedback loops and participation from the community, the deep layered economies that have yet to be cracked… list goes on.
Shima pushes the gaming industry forward by looking at how blockchain can find its place in games. Whether it’s the addition of web3 rails, novel open economies, or fresh experiences enabled by blockchain tech, Shima is excited by each and constantly looking to work with others who are equally passionate and share our vision for the space.
For example, our team likes to think deeply about token design and how it fits within overarching progression systems across different game genres.
Durable game economy design that is optimized in real time to mitigate open economy risks such as exposure to crypto markets generally.
