MapleStory N is officially set to launch on May 15, marking a new direction for the long-standing franchise by incorporating web3 elements into its classic 2D side-scrolling gameplay. Developed by Nexon and built on Avalanche’s Henesys network, MapleStory N introduces blockchain mechanics while retaining the visual style and structure that made the original title popular. The game is the first full release under the broader MapleStory Universe initiative, which aims to combine established gameplay with blockchain-enabled features.
MapleStory N serves as the foundational title in the MapleStory Universe, Nexon’s wider initiative to develop a range of web3-enabled projects. Future developments include MapleStory N Mobile for handheld devices, MapleStory N Worlds—a sandbox platform for user-generated content—and the MapleStory N SDK, which will enable third-party developers to build experiences within the MapleStory IP.
This larger initiative is being led by NEXPACE, Nexon’s dedicated web3 division based in Abu Dhabi. The group has overseen the integration of blockchain technology and the creation of community infrastructure designed to support ongoing player ownership and decentralized development.

In preparation for the launch, pre-downloads for MapleStory N opened on May 8 through the official platform at msu.io. Players planning to participate from day one are advised to have at least 30GB of storage available and to connect a compatible crypto wallet to access web3 features. Leading up to the launch, the development team organized several campaigns to encourage early engagement.
From May 6 to May 12, the OpenSea Primary Drop Campaign allowed users to mint the MSU Scroll SBT, with over 1.7 million wallets participating. Scroll holders will receive two in-game items—an OpenSea Chair and an NXPC Headband—starting May 13. Additional incentives will be available at launch through the OpenSea XP Shipment Event, which rewards players who achieve their 4th Job Advancement with bonus experience points.

While the gameplay in MapleStory N maintains the familiar side-scrolling mechanics and pixel art style of the original, the underlying systems have been restructured around web3 principles. Built on the Avalanche-based Henesys Layer 1 network, the game introduces a gasless transaction model. This allows users to mint and trade items without incurring traditional blockchain transaction fees, making in-game economies more accessible.
A key feature of the new system is Reward Experience 2.0 (RX 2.0), which shifts the focus from repetitive loot drops to meaningful item ownership. Items in MapleStory N are designed to be limited in quantity and tradable, introducing a layer of scarcity intended to give in-game assets long-term value. Players can earn NESO, the primary in-game currency, by completing quests and other tasks. While NESO starts as an off-chain asset, it can be converted into on-chain tokens that allow players to create NFTs from their items.
NXPC, the utility token within the MapleStory Universe, supports two core functions: Fission and Fusion. Fission allows users to spend NXPC to generate new items, while Fusion enables them to merge NFTs and receive NXPC in return. The token has a fixed supply of 1 billion and plays a central role in regulating item creation and trading within the ecosystem.

During its two public testing phases, MapleStory N saw significant activity on the blockchain. Over 31.5 million on-chain transactions were recorded, and user engagement remained high, with retention rates between 47 and 54 percent. Nearly one million wallets were registered during testing, indicating a strong interest in the integration of blockchain features within a familiar gaming environment.
As part of the launch week activities, early players can earn limited cosmetic rewards such as the Coin Mount and the Opening Party Set. Community engagement is also being incentivized through Discord, where users active during the launch period can receive the exclusive @Orange Mushroom role.

As the game launches, players who participated in early campaigns and testing will be eligible to claim a portion of 14.2 million NXPC tokens at msu.io/claim. These tokens can be used within the game, staked for potential benefits, or transferred across compatible chains for use within other parts of the web3 ecosystem. NXPC will also be listed for trading on platforms such as Binance Alpha and PancakeSwap, further expanding its accessibility and potential use cases.
With its official release, MapleStory N aims to combine the familiarity of a long-standing gaming franchise with the evolving possibilities of blockchain technology. By introducing player-owned assets, decentralized economic systems, and community engagement tools, the game sets the foundation for a new type of massively multiplayer online experience within the MapleStory Universe.
