Line Next to Introduce 2 Billion Chat Users to Web3 Games

Line Next, a subsidiary of Line Corporation, is set to launch a new web3 mini-game platform designed to capitalize on Line's extensive user base of 2 billion active chat users. Scheduled for release in Q4 2024, the platform aims to bring blockchain-based gaming experiences directly to users through the Line messaging app, without requiring additional downloads or applications.

This web-based approach enables users to seamlessly access games and decentralized applications (dapps), connect wallets, play, and invite friends— all within the familiar Line environment.  Line Next has also announced the launch of a Kaia Wave, a developer program supported by over $10 million in funding.

Platform Features and Functionality

The web3 mini-game platform by Line Next shares similarities with Telegram’s integrated web app approach. Users will be able to access the games directly from Line’s chat interface using their Line ID. In addition to playing games, the platform offers several other features:

  • Integrated Wallet Access: Users can link their digital wallets directly through the platform, enabling seamless in-game transactions and rewards.
  • Referral and Reward System: The Social Reward API facilitates a referral system, where users can invite friends to join and receive joint rewards, fostering community engagement.
  • Token and Item Trading: A dedicated Portal will be developed, allowing players to trade in-game tokens and digital assets within the ecosystem.

Collaboration with Kaia (Klaytn)

This platform comes on the heels of the recent launch of Kaia, an L1 blockchain that resulted from a merger between Finschia and Klaytn. In collaboration with Kaia, Line Next has introduced the Kaia Wave initiative. This developer program, supported by a $10 million fund, aims to attract web3 builders to contribute to the platform’s ecosystem.

Developers can apply for grants through the initiative, with up to $1.2 million available per developer. The Kaia Wave SDK provides comprehensive tools, including wallet APIs, mini dapp support, and portal integration, making it easier for developers to build applications and games for the Line Next platform.

Aiming to Drive Web3 Adoption

With this initiative, Line Next is positioning itself to drive web3 adoption among a massive user base, leveraging Line’s established reach in messaging services. The platform’s integration of digital wallets, combined with its easy access through the Line app, could provide a frictionless way for everyday users to engage with blockchain technologies.

As web3 continues to evolve, Line Next's mini-game platform and developer support through Kaia Wave could play a key role in bringing decentralized applications to mainstream audiences, especially in Asia where Line has a significant presence.
