LINE NEXT, the web3 division of the widely used messaging platform LINE, has taken a significant step in advancing blockchain adoption in Asia by launching Mini Dapps. These applications, designed to integrate seamlessly with LINE Messenger, aim to make web3 services more accessible and user-friendly. The initiative reflects LINE NEXT’s goal of driving mass adoption of decentralized applications across its extensive user base.

The Mini Dapps feature various functionalities, including gaming, social media, and other web3-enabled services. Powered by Kaia, a Layer 1 blockchain co-developed with Kakao, these applications mark a new phase in connecting users with blockchain technology. The launch also includes a Dapp Portal, which provides a dedicated space for LINE users to discover decentralized applications and trade digital assets such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Popular Applications Lead the Launch

Among the first Mini Dapps introduced are "Captain Tsubasa -RIVALS-" and Superz. "Captain Tsubasa -RIVALS-" draws inspiration from the iconic Japanese manga series, offering a blockchain-powered gaming experience. Superz, on the other hand, focuses on healthcare and wellness, showcasing the diverse possibilities that decentralized technologies can offer.

LINE NEXT has announced its intention to significantly expand its offerings, targeting the release of more than 1,000 Dapps by the end of 2025. This ambitious plan underscores LINE’s commitment to becoming a key player in the web3 space and leveraging its influence as a major communication platform in Asia.

Learning from Telegram’s Success

LINE NEXT’s strategy follows the success of Telegram, which integrated decentralized applications into its platform last year. By incorporating TON blockchain-based games like Notcoin and Hamster Kombat, Telegram significantly boosted its user base from 4 million to 128 million in just 12 months. LINE aims to replicate and potentially surpass this success by capitalizing on its existing market presence in countries such as Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand, where it enjoys a strong foothold.

Youngsu Ko, CEO of LINE NEXT, emphasized that the widespread adoption of web3 services hinges on their accessibility and ease of use. By embedding Mini Dapps directly into LINE Messenger, the company aims to lower barriers to entry for millions of users. Ko views this integration as a potential breakthrough for web3 adoption, making blockchain technologies more relatable and practical for everyday users.
