Line Messenger, a leading messaging platform with 196 million monthly users across Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia, is set to launch its web3 mini-dapp platform in January 2025. The initiative is spearheaded by Line’s web3 subsidiary, Line Next, in collaboration with the blockchain technology provider Kaia. The project aims to simplify access to web3 technologies, following trends seen in platforms like Telegram, which has gained traction through blockchain-powered gaming experiences.
Line and Kaia to Launch Mini Dapps in 2025
The mini-dapps will be integrated directly into Line Messenger, providing users with access to wallet creation, asset ownership, and transaction services without requiring deep technical knowledge of blockchain systems. This approach mirrors the functionality seen in platforms like WeChat and Telegram, allowing users to enjoy web3 experiences within familiar interfaces.
The platform is powered by the Kaia blockchain, a network formed through the merger of Klaytn and Finschia. This robust infrastructure underpins the platform's goal of delivering a seamless transition from web2 to web3.

The launch marks a strategic effort to bring blockchain technology to Line Messenger’s vast user base. By embedding web3 functionalities into its messaging app, Line aims to lower entry barriers for users and developers alike. The goal is to create a hybrid ecosystem where traditional web2 users can explore decentralized applications (dapps) effortlessly.
In preparation for the launch, Line Next and Kaia have also announced the release of their Dapp Portal SDK in early December 2024. This toolkit is expected to support developers in creating and optimizing applications for the mini-dapp platform.
Kaia x Line Next Roadmap
Kaia has reported significant interest from the developer community, with more than 700 projects worldwide expressing intent to build on the Line mini-dapp platform. Among these are games that have already gained popularity on Telegram and the TON network. This interest signals strong potential for the platform to scale quickly upon its debut.
By integrating blockchain-powered games and services within its messaging platform, Line Messenger is positioning itself as a key player in the evolving web3 space. The project underscores a growing trend among messaging apps to expand their ecosystems, leveraging blockchain technology to provide added value for users while driving developer adoption.
As January 2025 approaches, Line Messenger’s initiative reflects the increasing convergence of traditional digital platforms with decentralized technologies, setting the stage for broader web3 adoption in Asia and beyond.
