Illuvium, a game studio founded by three brothers from Sydney, Australia, will launch three web3 games—Illuvium: Overworld, Illuvium: Arena, and Illuvium: Zero—on July 25. This launch is a notable achievement for the studio, which has grown to over 250 employees and attracted talent from companies like Ubisoft, Activision, and CD Projekt Red. With a focus on diverse gameplay mechanics within a single universe, Illuvium aims to enhance the gaming experience through true asset ownership and a comprehensive in-game economy.

The three games within Illuvum's portfolio are designed to cater to a broad audience, each offering distinct gameplay mechanics within a unified universe. Illuvium: Overworld invites players to explore an alien world, capturing creatures known as Illuvials and uncovering the planet's mysteries.
On the other handIlluvium: Arena focuses on tactical combat, allowing players to train their Illuvials and compete in various multiplayer modes. Illuvium: Zero, a mobile city-building game, emphasizes resource management and strategic growth.
Kieran Warwick, CEO of Illuvium, explained that the initial plan was to create a single game. However, due to differing creative visions among the founding brothers, the project expanded into three distinct titles. The team aims to develop the fastest triple-A gaming universe in history and demonstrate the potential of high-quality web3 games.
“Our original intention was to build one title, but being brothers and highly competitive, we couldn’t agree on the genre and ended up building three games in different genres. We’ve probably wiped a collective 30 years off our lifespan, so we hope it’s worth it.”
Illuvium Roadmap
Illuvium’s interconnected ecosystem ensures that in-game progress and items are transferable across all three games. This approach enhances the player experience, making it more rewarding and accessible. Players have complete ownership of their in-game assets, which are securely stored in their Immutable Passport wallet and verifiable on the Ethereum blockchain. This allows players to collect, trade, and fully control their assets.
The in-game currency, ILV, plays a crucial role in Illuvium’s decentralized governance. Players can earn ILV through milestones and convert points into ILV at the end of each season. Staking ILV grants players a voice in the game's development and economic parameters, offering rewards through Revenue Distribution (RevDis).
One of Illuvium’s standout features is the interoperability of assets across its games. Players can use their Illuvials, cosmetics, and other assets in any of the three titles, fostering a cohesive gaming ecosystem. All games are free to play, with optional paid elements, aiming to build a loyal player base through compelling gameplay and immersive experiences.
In Overworld, players navigate a hostile alien environment to gather resources and repair their stranded ship. They hunt and capture Illuvials, each with unique abilities, while uncovering the planet's secrets and their own forgotten past. The game features seven distinct regions, each with its own challenges and rewards, enhancing the depth and complexity of the gameplay.
Arena provides a platform for players to showcase their strategic prowess. Starting with Survival mode, players can advance to ranked, casual, and custom multiplayer matches. The game’s deep combat system and customizable tactics ensure a dynamic and engaging experience. The upcoming 8-player round-robin auto-battler will add a new dimension to the competitive landscape.
Zero is a city-building game where players, as reconnaissance drones, develop their land, extract resources, and manage operations to support the Illuvium economy. The game’s seamless integration with Overworld and Arena supports players' broader adventures, emphasizing strategic planning and collaborative interactions.
Illuvium’s launch of three interconnected web3 games marks an important development in the gaming industry, demonstrating the potential of blockchain technology in enhancing gameplay and asset ownership. With its focus on strategic gameplay and community participation, Illuvium aims to establish a new standard for web3 games.
As the company continues to expand and innovate, it will be noteworthy to observe player reception and Illuvium’s impact on the future of gaming. For more information on Illuvium, check out their official website and social media account on X here.
