The shooter genre has an entire spectrum to fit almost everyone in the gaming industry on it. Numerous incredible franchises have contributed to the overall success of gaming, including Call of Duty, Battlefield, and many many others. Within the Call of Duty games specifically, those who weren’t skilled enough to enjoy the high intensity multiplayer mode always looked for a different outlet. This sparked iconic single-player campaigns, primarily the Call of Duty: Black Ops series, but more importantly, the birth of zombies mode and its vast amount of lore. The web3 gaming equivalent has been live and kicking for a while, and it goes by the name of Undead Blocks.

We have covered Undead Blocks quite often on Polkastarter Gaming, and that’s for good reason. The title, developed by Wagyu Games, gives web3 gamers the opportunity to experience the nostalgic zombie nights grinding it out to reach their personal best and crack a new high score. Undead Blocks was one of the 32 finalists in the inaugural edition of the GAM3 Awards, namely for the Best Shooter category.

With the latest Undead Blocks adding infinite waves of zombies, new weapons for players to enjoy, boss zombies every 10 rounds, and various quality of life improvements, it is definitely worth getting to know how to play Undead Blocks and how to reach high rounds in our comprehensive guide. Let’s get right into it.

Warming Up

If this is your first time playing Undead Blocks, or even zombies in general, there is nothing to panic about. The gameplay mechanics and structure are all simple enough for you to quickly grasp on the go. Undead Blocks is the world’s first multiplayer zombie survival blockchain game, where you have to withstand rounds upon rounds of zombies trying to take you down in a confined map. Your ultimate goal is to stay alive for as long as you possibly can.

Sounds simple, right? Well, it is not quite that easy. To start off your game, you will need to go through “Play” on the main menu, followed by Solo, and once you have all your weaponry and favorite character selected, you can ready up. For now, there isn’t much to do with your arsenal or even the characters, considering there are only Eva and Lucas available for selection at the time of writing.

The default starting weapon is your trusty pistol. Each zombie kill grants you 100 XP, and a headshot kill gives you 150 XP, so that’s an extra 50 points for killing a zombie with a headshot. As small as that sounds, it really does stack up so try your best to aim for the head. Now, if you are going for a high round, you need to set your strategy from the get go.

The first two rounds are simple enough that you can melee your way through them instead of wasting your pistol ammo. Having said that, don’t waste the opportunity to aim at the head even when you are using melee for the extra points.

Plan Ahead

One thing that will set you apart from other players and make you capable of reaching high rounds is what you purchase once you have enough points and in what order. The most important thing is to get you a better weapon than the pistol as soon as possible otherwise you are going to take ages. If you are impatient, you can instantly buy an MP5 off the wall at the barricade area for 5500 XP.

However, it falls off pretty quickly as zombies start eating those bullets like they are nothing. In my opinion, it is better to accumulate your points, unlock the door of the house at the tailend of the map and its basement to get to the weapons cache. Once you have done that, you can purchase either an AK47 or an F1. Ultimately, your loadout will be these two weapons but which one to get first is your choice depending on how long you feel you can last before having to get a better weapon.

On top of that, you will need to get the two perks, Diet Sprint and Reload Rootbeer, which will cost 20K and 25K points respectively. These are the only two perks available to you in this current build of Undead Blocks. As their names suggest, Diet Sprint will grant you much faster sprint speed, while Reload Rootbeer will quicken your reload animation a ton to allow you to get your bullets off faster in sticky situations.

Now that we have laid all of that out, my personal plan is to rush opening the doors to the basement where the weapon box is as fast as possible and get either the F1 or AK as fast as possible then the priority from there would be the perks followed by the AK47. You can exchange the pistol for the MP5 if you want to avoid the constant need to pass by the reload boxes and spending 500 XP each time.

Learn to Train

All of what we discussed so far are your essential tools for success, but it means nothing if you don’t know how to control the zombie waves when they start getting overwhelming. A common concept developed during the Call of Duty zombies days is “training.” It means to literally line up your zombies in a train to mow them down with your weapons.

This is where Diet Sprint will get in handy, but it is still absolutely doable without it. The perk makes it massively easier as you progress through higher rounds and zombies get quicker and deal more damage per hit. For visualization, consider the map as an oval racetrack and you are right up front. You will have to run in circles covering the map from end to end while stopping in short bursts to attract zombies to stay behind you and not go through other routes.

At certain chokepoints, particularly between the pole and truck in the middle of the map and in the same spot on the other end of the truck, are where your train will be lined up perfectly for you to aim at head level and get the most kills you can while walking backwards till they catch up to you. Make sure to keep glancing over your shoulder so you don’t get stuck in between your own train and environment obstacles and spawning zombies from the direction you are running towards.

It is worth mentioning that with the latest update, there is a new American football zombie boss that spawns in every 10 rounds. Its presence shouldn’t change your game plan at all as all that differs is just a few extra bullets needed to take it down then you can carry on with your regular gameplay.

We hope you enjoyed our How to Play Undead Blocks guide and learned a couple of new tricks before trying to hit that illusive triple-digit zombies round. See you in the 100+ club.
