Gunzilla Games has released a new update for Off The Grid, a free-to-play cyberpunk battle royale game currently available in Early Access on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The most significant gameplay change in this patch is a 30% reduction in Time-to-Kill (TTK) across all weapons. This adjustment has made combat encounters faster and more lethal, altering the rhythm of player engagements. To maintain balance, the update also increases weapon spread. Players will now see their weapons become less accurate if they continue to fire while moving or airborne.
These changes aim to create a more tactical environment, particularly in balancing close-range aggression with long-range strategy. Gunzilla Games noted that additional weapon tuning is on the way, particularly around recoil management. While the update has made close-range firefights feel more impactful, player feedback indicates that engagements at mid-range may now be too forgiving. The studio confirmed plans to monitor community input and make iterative changes in future patches.
Gunzilla Reveals Major Updates for Off The Grid
Off The Grid is a high-end, third-person battle royale shooter that offers players both a fast-paced multiplayer experience and a 60-hour single-player campaign. The game incorporates blockchain technology through swappable cybernetic limbs and customizable weapons, all tradable as NFTs. These in-game assets can be exchanged using the GUN token through a dedicated mobile wallet.
The latest patch introduces a new category of gear—Legendary Weapons. These enhanced weapons are now available to players during matches and offer upgraded stats along with pre-installed attachments. Each Legendary Weapon appears only once per match and must be acquired through loot boxes or drone missions. However, these weapons are not persistent and disappear once a match concludes.
This decision has led to some player disappointment, especially after Gunzilla CEO Vlad Korolev previously hinted at the arrival of "Legendary items," which many interpreted as permanent unlockables. The update does not include the long-awaited Legendary Hexes, which were expected to deliver permanent rewards such as cybernetic upgrades and exclusive weapons. There was no mention of these Hexes in the latest patch notes, and the studio has not offered a timeline for their release.
Gunzilla Reveals Major Updates for Off The Grid
A new Battle Pass is now live in Off The Grid, offering players access to two themed content tracks: CleanUp Crew and Hopper Pilot. The CleanUp Crew theme focuses on post-combat aesthetics and includes character skins, the “No Pulse” emote, and the Hawk CleanUp Crew LMG. On the other hand, the Hopper Pilot theme draws inspiration from the chaotic role of delivery pilots on Teardrop Island, featuring futuristic gear, the “Emergency Ejection” emote, and the AZV Pilot weapon. Both tracks contain multiple cosmetic rewards and loyalty bonuses designed to reward progression through the pass.
Alongside content changes, the update introduces backend testing for a new Ranked Mode, which Gunzilla describes as "under the hood." This system is designed to improve matchmaking by grouping players of similar skill levels. Although not yet formally released, the feature mirrors the skill-based matchmaking systems seen in other competitive games.
Additionally, the patch improves aim assist functionality. A previous bug affecting first-person scopes after melee attacks has been resolved, leading to more consistent aiming across gameplay scenarios. These technical refinements are part of Gunzilla’s broader effort to polish the game’s mechanics as it continues in Early Access development.
Gunzilla Reveals Major Updates for Off The Grid
The update also includes the release of a new OTG Pro Content Pack featuring the Crash Test Ted character skin. This pack includes the “Impact Replay” emote and the Type 227 Flatliner weapon. However, the addition has received a mixed response from the community. Many players have pointed out the visual similarities between Crash Test Ted and the previously released Impact Junkie skin, which was a Discord-exclusive item. The resemblance has led to criticism that the content may be repurposed rather than original, prompting discussions around the studio's approach to asset reuse.
Gunzilla has signaled its intention to respond to player feedback and evolve the game with regular content drops. While expectations around permanent Legendary items were not met in this patch, the studio appears focused on iterative improvements and community engagement as it shapes the future of Off The Grid.
