As the final quarter of 2024 begins, the blockchain gaming landscape has witnessed significant shifts in Q3, with TON (The Open Network) emerging as the standout performer. According to data from the Big Blockchain Game List, TON experienced a staggering 320% growth in new gaming titles during Q3, cementing its position as one of the most rapidly expanding ecosystems in the web3 gaming space.

Among blockchains specifically focused on gaming, Sky Mavis' Ronin saw the most growth, registering a 40% increase with the addition of eight new games. These include the high-profile RPG life simulation Tatsumeeko, which migrated from Solana and Immutable, as well as seven titles from Ronin’s Forge developer program. Ronin’s growth reflects the rising popularity of blockchain-based games, as it now supports a total of 28 gaming titles.
Immutable, despite its claims of hosting over 300-370 games, currently has 174 validated titles on the Big Blockchain Game List, making it the largest ecosystem by total game count. Although Immutable continues to lead in sheer volume, much of its game data remains to be publicly confirmed.
Number of Games Per Blockchain
Outside the gaming-focused blockchains, TON has emerged as the clear leader in Q3 2024. With 385 titles now listed, TON recorded an impressive 320% growth during the quarter. Its success can be attributed to the popularity of several previously launched games like Notcoin, Hamster Kombat, and Catizen, which have drawn substantial user engagement. In addition, TON has attracted a wave of new projects, including well-known mobile-style games like Flappy Bird and Banana.
While many of these games are characterized by their simplicity and play-to-earn models, their ease of use and integration into larger web3 ecosystems, such as Telegram, have contributed to TON’s growing appeal. Game developers are increasingly launching companion apps that integrate with Telegram, driving users toward TON-based games and expanding the ecosystem.

The explosive growth seen in TON highlights the value of all-purpose blockchains in the gaming sector. Unlike gaming-centric chains, TON’s versatility allows for a variety of applications beyond gaming, which may explain its rapid expansion. Distribution platforms like Telegram and network effects also play a crucial role in attracting game developers and users alike to TON’s ecosystem.
Comparing other major all-purpose blockchains, Polygon and Ethereum remain strong players in the gaming space. Polygon now hosts 150 games, while Ethereum supports 132. BNB, Solana, and Arbitrum follow with 104, 65, and 55 titles respectively.
Number of New Games Per Blockchain in Q3 2024
The rapid expansion of TON is largely supported by its integration with Telegram, which functions as a crucial distribution platform for many of its games. This relationship has enabled a number of game developers, such as those behind GOAT Gaming and Gamee, to funnel users from their Telegram-based applications directly into TON’s gaming ecosystem. The network effect generated by these platforms underscores the importance of having robust distribution channels to drive growth in the blockchain gaming space.

Despite TON’s rapid ascent, questions remain regarding the long-term sustainability of this growth. Many of its new games are relatively simple, often focused on speculative free-to-play and play-to-earn models rather than complex gameplay or immersive web3 economies. While these titles have played a pivotal role in attracting a large user base, it remains to be seen whether this momentum can be maintained as user expectations for deeper gameplay and more sophisticated game economies continue to rise.
TON Gaming Teams Dominate X Metrics
As Q4 2024 unfolds, TON’s remarkable growth during Q3 has firmly positioned it as a major player in the blockchain gaming space. While gaming-centric blockchains like Ronin and Immutable continue to thrive, the broader adoption of all-purpose blockchains like TON highlights the dynamic nature of the web3 gaming ecosystem.
With a growing number of developers leveraging platforms like Telegram to bring users into the TON ecosystem, the blockchain's future looks promising, albeit with questions about the sustainability of its current growth trajectory. You can read the full report here for more information.
