Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game on Steam

Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game, a difficult driving game inspired by the web3-based Goblintown NFT project, is now available in Early Access on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. Players can purchase the game at a launch discount of 34 percent, reducing the price to $9.89 for the first two weeks after release. The base price will be set at $14.99 after May 14.

The game combines elements of traditional obstacle-based platformers with driving mechanics, placing players in the role of a delivery driver navigating a highly hazardous course. The objective is to deliver a burger order to a location called Pumplescroob using an unstable delivery truck referred to in-game as the wobblewagon. The route is intentionally designed to be frustrating and unpredictable, featuring jumps, traps, and difficult terrain.

Players can boost their vehicle to accelerate across gaps and avoid falling, while a unique mechanic allows them to slow down time by using a microphone input—specifically, by yelling or making loud sounds. This feature introduces a new layer of interaction that can assist with precise control during difficult segments of the course.

Current Features in the Early Access Version

The Early Access release offers a complete playthrough of the game’s main track and includes core features that define the gameplay experience. Players are able to use speed boosts, engage the time-slowing mechanic, and track their performance through an in-game stat system. The system records data such as total jumps, top speed, average speed, and time spent using the microphone-based slowdown.

While the current version is already described by developers as a full experience, additional features are planned. These include new tracks, customizable characters, expanded biomes, more complex obstacles, and online leaderboards. The development team has indicated that the game will remain in Early Access until at least the end of 2025, although the timeline may shift based on community feedback and ongoing development progress.

Platform Availability and Events

Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game is available for Windows PCs through both Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game is also playable on the Steam Deck, though the developers have noted that it is not yet fully optimized for that platform. An official release tailored for the Steam Deck is expected in a future update. Prior to the game’s digital release, the development team promoted it through an in-person event held at Union Square. Attendees were invited to try beating the game on their first attempt to win a $10,000 prize.

No participant succeeded, but the event helped generate interest in the game. Additional appearances are planned at major gaming events in the United States. The team and its McGoblinBurger truck will be present at PAX East in Boston in early May and at DreamHack in Dallas later in the month. Attendees of these events will have another opportunity to engage with the game in a live setting.

A Web2 Game with Visual Ties to a Web3 IP

Despite its connection to the Goblintown NFT project, Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game is a purely web2 title. The game includes no blockchain components, NFT integration, or cryptocurrency mechanics. According to the developers, the use of the Goblintown visual identity is limited to thematic inspiration, and the game is being developed independently from the NFT project's community and infrastructure.

The Goblintown NFT collection itself was launched in May 2022 as a 10,000-piece Ethereum-based set. It was initially released as a free mint with no roadmap or attached utility. Today, the collection can be found on platforms such as OpenSea, Magic Eden, and Blur, with a current floor price of approximately 0.2747 ETH. Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game is focused entirely on gameplay and user experience within a traditional web2 framework, despite its web3-inspired aesthetic.
