Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game Coming to Epic Games Store

Ethereum NFT project Goblintown has announced the release of "Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game," a PC and Mac title that will be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game was revealed with an official trailer showcasing its unique gameplay, which features the well-known Goblintown Burger Truck navigating a series of challenging obstacles. While Goblintown is rooted in web3, the developers have confirmed that the game will not include any crypto or NFT integrations.

The game's developers describe it as a "foddian" experience, referencing a genre known for its extreme difficulty, similar to games like Getting Over It and Only Up. The trailer emphasizes the game's challenging mechanics, with the end credits jokingly stating that it is "incredibly hard," referencing an anecdote in which a player's mother immediately crashed due to the difficulty level.

About Goblintown

Despite Goblintown’s connection to web3, the game is designed strictly as a traditional web2 experience. Truth Labs co-founder and CEO Alexander Taub confirmed that the project will utilize Goblintown’s intellectual property but will not incorporate blockchain technology. This decision aligns with Steam’s policy, which banned blockchain-based games in 2021. The Epic Games Store, however, does allow blockchain games, but in this case, Goblintown has opted to keep the game separate from crypto integrations.

According to Taub, the game is expected to launch within the next 60 to 90 days, with additional details to be revealed as the release approaches. One aspect that remains to be explored is how the game will connect with Abstract, a consumer-focused Ethereum layer-2 network recently launched by Igloo Inc., the parent company of Pudgy Penguins. Taub noted that Abstract has a strong focus on streaming, and the team believes Really Hard Driving Game could become a popular game for streaming content in 2025.

This is not Goblintown’s first connection to Steam. In 2023, Goblintown imagery appeared in the popular game Only Up, which was able to incorporate the artwork due to its release under an open-source Creative Commons 0 (CC0) license. However, the game’s solo developer, known as Indiesolodev, later decided to remove it from Steam, citing personal stress and a desire to move on from the project.

Reaction to the Announcement

Following the announcement of Really Hard Driving Game, interest in the original Goblintown NFT collection has increased. Over the last 24 hours, the collection's floor price has risen nearly 20%, reaching $573 according to NFT Price Floor. While the new game does not include direct NFT integrations, the renewed attention on Goblintown’s brand has had an impact on the secondary market for its digital assets.

As the release date nears, more details about Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game are expected to emerge. The developers aim to leverage the game’s difficulty and design to create a compelling experience for players and content creators alike.
