Our GAM3 Awards, a prominent fixture in the realm of web3 gaming, are making a triumphant return this December 2023. The event's distinguished panel of judges has been unveiled, featuring a mix of familiar figures from 2022 and new representatives spanning various aspects of web3 gaming. Notable newcomers to the panel include experts from web3 gaming venture capital firms, blockchain and ecosystem specialists, infrastructure partners, and content creators, in addition to renowned gaming leaders and tech giants such as Amazon and Google.
We are proud to introduce one of our jury members Sam Barberie. Sam is a gaming and web3 exec and author of Let's Play, exploring the intersection of games, brands, and web3. Sam was part of the founding team of SuperData Research, which was acquired by Nielsen in 2018; an executive at Animoca Brands; and is the Head of Strategy and Partnerships at Horizon and Sequence.
1. What is the most enjoyable part of your role?
“Getting to be creative with developers who are using the latest with our technology to delight players in new ways, while working with the best team in web3 at Sequence and Horizon.”
2. How do you see the progress made in web3 gaming since last year?
“As tough of a year it has been, it was also a necessary course correction that has let some of the awesome opportunities that major companies in Asia and elsewhere are doing in leaning into web3. Game development takes time, great game development takes longer. We have to be patient, but 100% this is happening.”
3. What is the most valuable addition web3 brings into gaming, from your perspective, if any?
“Web3 can be as mundane as a database—solving technical, legal, or accounting hurdles for developers—or as mind bending as genre-defining new game design that does what games have only done more and more: connecting to all of our lives and fandom in and outside gaming. Web3 is just a tool that developers can use, and those that use it to delight players will win.”
4. What is your outlook on 2024 and beyond for web3 gaming?
“We're going to see amazing games launch next year. I can't express how excited I am by the games—from AAA to indie studios—that we're working with. We are going to see the killer app in the next year, the title that wins over players.”
