Our GAM3 Awards, a standout event in web3 gaming, is set for a grand return this December 2023. Excitingly, our panel of judges includes familiar figures from 2022 and new voices spanning various corners of web3 gaming. Among the noteworthy additions are experts from web3 gaming venture capital firms, blockchain and ecosystem specialists, infrastructure partners, and content creators. We're also privileged to have esteemed leaders from the gaming realm and tech giants like Amazon and Google joining our distinguished jury lineup.

We are proud to introduce one of our jury members Ken Partner at Mechanism Capital. Ken is a web3 enthusiast with tons of passion for blockchain gaming and solving its persistent issues in the space.

1. What is the most enjoyable part of your role?

“As wee lads, my generation had the privilege of growing up in the golden age of gaming. And as the market grew and matured, it became more commoditized. More and more we suffered the injustices inflicted by the powers that be. If they served us buggy, exploitative, derivative garbage, we had to choke it down and be grateful. If they bastardized our favorite games in pursuit of maximal value extraction or zombified the highlights of our childhoods to capitalize on nostalgia, we could only watch sadly as we were disappointed again and again.

Now we are the men upstairs. those of us who grew up playing games have been growing into positions where we are now able to influence the things that can be innovated and built.

The most enjoyable thing is watching the assholes who broke things age out of our turf. The future is bright and hope we do not lose our way to the same mistakes.”

2. How do you see the progress made in web3 gaming since last year?

“It’s apparent that the space has been compressing and coiling for the coming explosion. The bandwagoners and profiteers have largely been culled, and fresh talent with conviction tested by the winter of bear has been quietly building.

Infrastructure is more robust, game designs more polished, experimentation more bold, and economics have become far more democratized. We’re not quite there yet but the mess and chaos of the space has gradually begun to align in direction. Up we go.”

3. What is the most valuable addition web3 brings into gaming, from your perspective, if any?

“Financialization, interoperability, and the framing of mechanics and economy and interaction around ownership.

It's been obvious for a while that there is no stuffing hyper-monetization back into pandora's box. What we can do however is democratize access and participation - ultimately greed will still exist but it's far more constructive to grow the whole ecosystem by opening it up to new stakeholders and creators, as opposed to choking flow to the hands of a select few. More people participating means more value creation means better games, more sustainable monetization, and we hope a net benefit for both the people making games and the people playing them.”

4. What is your outlook on 2024 and beyond for web3 gaming?

“Irrevocably bullish. The groundwork has been laid now for good games to blow up and set the path forward for the space. Slowly at first, then all at once.”

The return of our GAM3 Awards in 2023 promises to be a celebration of the web3 gaming industry's growth and innovation. With industry figures like Ken on the jury, the event is set to recognize excellence in the ever-evolving world of web3 gaming.
