​​GAM3 Awards 2023 Meet the Jury: Chris Gonsalves

Our GAM3 Awards, a standout event in web3 gaming, is set for a grand return this December 2023. Excitingly, our panel of judges includes familiar figures from 2022 and new voices spanning various corners of web3 gaming. Among the noteworthy additions are experts from web3 gaming venture capital firms, blockchain and ecosystem specialists, infrastructure partners, and content creators. We're also privileged to have esteemed leaders from the gaming realm and tech giants like Amazon and Google joining our distinguished jury lineup.

We are proud to introduce one of our jury members Chris Gonsalves, CEO of Community Gaming. Community Gaming is an esports tournament, building efficient payment tools to enable gamers to earn and achieve. Their mission is to be the global earnings platform, working synergistically with game developers to enable millions of players to monetize their passion for gaming. In addition to their tournament infrastructure, they are dedicated to helping foster financial inclusion and technological literacy for gamers in emerging markets through grants and offline events.

1. What is the most enjoyable part of your role?   

“One of the most enjoyable parts of my role at Community Gaming is getting to play so many new web3-enabled games from talented teams. Getting to travel to different countries and meet these teams, and their players is incredibly rewarding.”  

2. How do you see the progress made in web3 gaming since last year?  

“The traditional game publishers are starting to take web3 gaming more seriously. The amount of capital raised and the talent that has flowed from traditional studios to new studios has created a shift from if incumbents will use this tech to when is the right time.”  

3. What is the most valuable addition web3 brings into gaming, from your perspective, if any? 

“The concept of open game economies. It’s incredibly valuable to enable players to have digital property rights and be able to (optionally) monetize their time spent playing games and building up tangible value in their accounts.”

4. What is your outlook on 2024 and beyond for web3 gaming? 

“As the next slate of high-quality games launch in 2024 and the stigma around NFT tech in games continues to wane, we are well-positioned to see our first mainstream success. I believe mobile gaming will play a big role in this and I hope to see a great mobile web3 shooter go viral.”
