Blob Arena, a fully on-chain turn-based battler developed by Grug’s Lair, is scheduled to launch on Saturday, June 7, during the Armored MMA event at the NFL’s Hall of Fame Village in Canton, Ohio. The event, which combines traditional cage fighting with medieval-style combat using steel weapons and armor, will serve as the debut venue for the blockchain-based game.
Fully On-chain Game Blob Arena Now Live
Blob Arena operates entirely on-chain using the Starknet blockchain and is developed on the Cartridge game engine, which supports blockchain-native gameplay. Players can access the game either by signing in through Discord or by creating a passkey using their phone or a security device. Once signed in, users create a blob fighter and participate in turn-based battles. As they win matches, players can upgrade their stats and unlock new moves.
The game also allows players to use in-game currency to roll for additional blob fighters, expanding their tactical options. Two versions of the game will be available at launch. Alongside the classic gameplay mode, a new AMMA mode—designed to reflect the theme of the Armored MMA event—will also be introduced.

As part of the launch, a $1,000 cash tournament will be held on-site at the Blob Arena booth. This live competition is intended for event attendees and introduces the game in a physical setting to a broader audience. Beyond the in-person experience, Blob Arena will offer a seasonal online prize pool valued at more than $50,000, awarded in various digital assets. This approach aims to attract both casual players and competitive gamers within the web3 space.

Grug’s Lair creative director Giacomo De Caro commented on the broader goals of the launch. According to De Caro, the physical presence of Blob Arena at a mainstream sporting event is intended to demonstrate the viability of web3 gaming outside traditional online environments. He noted that blockchain games are often confined to niche online communities, but public events like Armored MMA offer a way to engage directly with players and spectators.
Following the Ohio launch, Blob Arena will continue its promotional campaign by participating in the Buhurt International World Championship, a globally recognized medieval combat tournament taking place in Hungary from July 16 to 21. This event is expected to further introduce the game to new audiences through live demonstrations and player engagement. Further details about Blob Arena, including gameplay information and tournament schedules, are available on the official website.
