Rosentica, a Japanese multimedia studio, will launch the first closed beta test (CBT-A) for its multiplayer roguelike RPG, Freya: The Starfall, on May 24 at 10 PM EST. The two-week beta phase marks a significant milestone in the development of the AI-driven game, offering players a chance to compete for over $100,000 in USDC rewards. The competitive event includes a $30,000 grand prize for the top-ranked participant and several other prizes for high performers and a broad portion of the player base.
Rosentica is a growing presence in Japan's digital entertainment sector. With a focus on cross-medium storytelling, the studio is developing Freya: The Starfall as the centerpiece of a broader franchise. In addition to the game, the company is producing webcomics, animated music videos, and merchandise to expand the Starfall universe. Rosentica's emphasis on narrative depth and visual artistry is reflected in its collaboration with Sangsoo Jeong, a well-known artist recognized for work on titles like League of Legends and Diablo.

The closed beta test introduces players to Freya: The Starfall through its Adventure Mode, a key part of the game’s roguelike experience. In this mode, players guide their squad through the Starfall Festival, a procedurally generated challenge filled with randomized equipment, shifting ideologies, and player-driven narrative outcomes. The competitive format encourages strategic planning and adaptability, as each player begins with the same set of resources to ensure a balanced start.
Participants in the beta can earn a range of USDC rewards. The top player will receive $30,000, while second and third place will each receive $10,000. Players ranking from fourth to tenth will be awarded $3,000 each, and the top 50 percent of the leaderboard will earn $100. In addition to these monetary rewards, all participants will receive Starlight Points based on their final ranking, which may offer further in-game benefits.

During the closed beta, players will form a team of AI-generated mercenaries, each designed with distinct skills, attributes, and narrative arcs. Characters feature four randomized combat skills and five adjustable attributes, all influenced by player choices and previous gameplay outcomes. The game’s combat system is designed to be tactical, with emphasis on planning and adaptation. Mechanisms such as Twists of Fate, modifiable talent trees, and procedurally generated gear will challenge players to continually revise their strategies.
Freya: The Starfall includes multiple game modes, each tailored to different styles of play. Adventure Mode emphasizes the roguelike aspect of the game, where players make strategic decisions that can lead to permanent changes in the game’s storyline. Choices not only affect mission outcomes but also influence character development and team dynamics.
Clash Mode focuses on player-versus-player competition. In this mode, players construct and optimize teams to face others in tactical battles. The format rewards those who can build synergistic squads and adapt to counter opponents’ strategies. Voyage Mode offers a slower-paced experience centered on exploration. This mode allows players to explore the lore of Starfall Haven and discover the histories, factions, and ideologies that define the game's world.

The in-game economy of Freya: The Starfall is powered by the $FREYA token. This on-chain asset enables players to customize their AI characters, participate in governance decisions through Rosentica's Roundtable Council, and earn rewards via staking. The integration of the token is designed to align with web3 principles while supporting long-term engagement within the game’s ecosystem.
The closed beta launch of Freya: The Starfall marks an important step for Rosentica as it seeks to establish a foothold in the web3 gaming space. For those interested in exploring a strategy-focused, AI-driven RPG with a strong narrative component, the upcoming beta offers a valuable opportunity to engage early with one of the more anticipated titles in the genre.
