Fortnite Sidekicks Arrive with Simpsons Mini-Season

Epic Games is introducing a new kind of cosmetic to Fortnite next month. Officially called “sidekicks,” these interactive pets will join players in-game starting November 1, coinciding with the launch of Fortnite’s Simpsons-themed mini-season. Sidekicks act as small companions that follow players during matches, perform emotes, and react to in-game events, adding a new layer of personality to the experience.

The first sidekick to debut will be Peels, a banana dog included in the Simpsons battle pass. Epic describes sidekicks as more than simple cosmetics, hinting that they’ll add expressive flair and interactivity similar to Fortnite’s evolving emote system.

Returning Favorites and Upcoming Releases

A few days after Peels’ debut, Epic Games will release three additional sidekicks on November 7 through the Fortnite item shop. Among them is Bonesy, a fan-favorite canine that first appeared years ago as a back bling in Chapter 1. Players who own the original Bonesy back bling will automatically receive the updated sidekick version for free. Epic hasn’t shared exact pricing details for these new cosmetics yet.

Customization and Costs

While sidekicks can be customized, Epic has set clear boundaries on how that system works. Players can alter the appearance of their sidekick - such as color, fur pattern, or other visual traits - only once. If they want to create a different version of the same pet, they’ll need to purchase another sidekick, which will likely cost V-Bucks, Fortnite’s in-game currency.

Epic says this design choice reinforces the idea that each sidekick is a unique companion rather than a simple reskin. Even so, players can still personalize their pets further by unlocking accessories like hats and shirts through gameplay, which adds a non-monetized layer of customization.

Fortnite x Simpsons Crossover Event

The addition of sidekicks aligns with Fortnite’s upcoming Simpsons crossover, which begins on November 1. The event brings a Springfield-themed island, new quests, and a battle pass featuring iconic characters such as Homer and Marge Simpson. A live event is scheduled for Saturday morning to officially launch the collaboration, followed by the start of the new mini-season later that evening.

Expanding the Fortnite Experience

Alongside the sidekicks and crossover content, Fortnite will introduce the Fortnite Festival Mixtape Music Pass, which includes new Jam Tracks, skins, and in-game rewards. Together, these updates expand Fortnite’s mix of gameplay, social features, and creative expression - continuing Epic’s trend of turning the battle royale into a broader entertainment platform rather than a single-genre game.
