Mark your calendars for June 26th to 29th as Decentraland gears up to host its inaugural Game Expo, showcasing web3 gaming. Transforming one of Decentraland’s primary plazas into a vibrant arcade, the Expo promises a glimpse into the future of web3 gaming.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore booths featuring top games within Decentraland, alongside offerings from prominent names in the gaming industry.

In this article, we will cover everything you need to know about how you can get ready for the inaugural Decentraland Game Expo - including how to register and participate in the Game Jam for a chance to win prizes and showcase your game.

Decentraland Game Expo

Summary of Event

Spanning four days, the Expo will feature daily live web3 discussions with industry leaders, streamed both within Decentraland and on social media platforms including Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Leading up to the Expo, creators will vie for a $17,000 prize pool in a Game Jam, tasked with developing captivating games aligned with a central theme in just one month. 

The top four winning games will be showcased at DCLGX, highlighting  Decentraland’s SDK 7 and its creator community. As the countdown to the event begins, stay tuned for more updates and exciting surprises in the weeks ahead.

Register now at the official DCLGX Game Jam page at itch.io  - when you submit your GitHub repository you will also be asked to enter additional information such as your email, GitHub profile, and wallet address. 

Decentraland Game Jam

Key Dates:

• April 24th: Registration opens
• May 1st: Theme & Guidelines released, Game Jam begins
• May 31st: Submission deadline, Game Jam closes
• June 5th: Winners Announced
• June 26th-29th: Winners showcased at the Decentraland Game Expo

The Challenge:

Create a new Decentraland game in their Metaverse World that can be installed and enjoyed on a 4x4 parcel at the Decentraland Game Expo (max size 60 MB). The game theme and judging criteria will be revealed to all registered teams on May 1st, so make sure to register now.

The Prizes:

• 1st Place: 20,000 $MANA + Game Exhibited at DCLGX
• 2nd Place: 10,000 $MANA + Game Exhibited at DCLGX
• 3rd & 4th Place: 5,000 $MANA + Game Exhibited @ DCLGX
• Top 25 Entries: 100 $MANA for a Decentraland NAME

Notes: At the time of publication 20,000 MANA is equivalent to over $8,000 USD. The total prize pool is equivalent to over $17,000 USD. The winning amounts will be paid in MANA at the close of DCLGX and rates may vary. Current MANA rates can be found on their website.

Who can apply?

This is a promotional opportunity for existing Decentraland games. Your game should already be finished and deployed in Genesis City or a Decentraland World and must have a free-to-play version available.

If you miss the Call for Games deadline or are not selected, you can instead host an event during the Expo’s dates in June on Decentraland’s event page. Be sure to include the #DCLGX tag in your event description and your event will be included in the DCLGX program.

How will the games be selected?

Up to 10 games will be selected for DCLGX by the Decentraland Foundation. Games will be chosen to show a variety of what Decentraland offers and will focus on the player experience and the game’s level of innovation.

• Player experience: The mechanics of your game should be engaging and easy for new players to understand.
• Innovation: Your game should utilize the capabilities of Decentraland in its interactivity and gameplay.

Booth Details

If selected for the Expo, you will be provided with a 1x1 game booth template as a GitHub repository. You will be able to customize this template with your own brand, graphics, and models. More details will be provided to the selected games’ owners.

The booth will contain a teleporter that you can program to teleport expo-goers to your game, however, you must also install the same teleporter in your game to transport visitors back to Decentraland Game Expo.

Your booth will be installed in DCLGX plaza during, and up to six months after, the expo. It may also be moved to alternative locations by the Decentraland Foundation during this time.

To apply for a chance to display your game at a Decentraland Game Expo booth, complete the application form by 11:59 pm UTC on Friday, May 10. You will be asked for your contact details and information about your Decentraland game. Note: Selected games will be announced by Wednesday, May 22nd.
