Epic Games Store Adds Game Gifting Feature

The Epic Games Store has officially rolled out a gifting feature, allowing players to buy and send games directly to friends on their Epic friends list. The new addition makes it easier to celebrate special occasions, share favorite titles, or surprise friends with a game.

Purchases made through Epic’s payment system also earn Epic Rewards, which can be redeemed by recipients when claiming gifts, providing more flexibility for players to earn and spend rewards across the platform. The feature aligns with broader trends in digital game marketplaces and web3-adjacent reward systems that focus on community engagement.

How Players Can Send Gifts

Sending a gift on the Epic Games Store is straightforward. Players first select the game they wish to purchase and choose the “Buy as a Gift” option. From there, they select a friend from their Epic friends list and can optionally schedule the delivery of the gift.

Once the purchase is completed, the recipient receives a notification within the Epic Games Store, and if email notifications are enabled, an email alert is also sent. Recipients have 14 days to accept the gift. If the recipient already owns the game, the purchase is automatically refunded. Gifts can also be declined, in which case the sender will receive a refund.

Games and Content Eligible for Gifting

The gifting feature supports paid games, editions, durable add-ons, and eligible bundles. Certain items are excluded from gifting, including free games, pre-purchase offers, subscriptions, and in-game currency or other consumables. This ensures that gifting focuses on full game experiences and long-term content, rather than temporary or consumable items.

Expanding Rewards Through Gifting

Epic Rewards are earned on purchases made for gifts, giving players additional incentives to participate in the new feature. Recipients can also use their Epic Rewards balance to redeem gifts, making the system a two-way benefit. This approach encourages continued engagement with the Epic Games Store and provides a seamless way for players to share games while benefiting from the platform’s reward system.
