Elden Ring: Nightreign adds Duo Expeditions on July 30, letting players team up in a new two-player mode with balanced combat and fresh co-op gameplay.
FromSoftware is answering one of the most requested features in Elden Ring: Nightreign with the arrival of two-player support. Set to launch as part of Patch 1.02 on July 30, the update introduces Duo Expeditions, a dedicated co-op mode made specifically for two players. This fills the gap between solo runs and three-player squad expeditions, giving players more flexibility in how they explore Nightreign’s brutal rogue-like world.
Elden Ring: Nightreign is a standalone expansion that blends the punishing difficulty of Soulsborne combat with roguelike progression and co-op exploration. Unlike the base Elden Ring, Nightreign takes place in a procedurally generated region called Limveld, where players face randomized bosses, environments, and loot on every run. The game originally launched with solo and three-player support only, but quickly drew criticism for skipping duos entirely, especially since many players preferred adventuring with just one friend. With this upcoming patch, FromSoftware is finally fixing that.
The newly announced Duo Expeditions mode will officially allow two players to team up in a rebalanced environment designed around duo combat. This isn't just scaling down three-player content, as it’s a proper adjustment that tunes enemy encounters, boss phases, and rewards specifically for two-player teams.
Here’s what else is coming in the update:
Director Junya Ishizaki shared that the team heard player feedback loud and clear after launch, which helped fast-track the development of this mode. It’s one of the most requested features since Nightreign’s release on May 30. Before this patch, players who wanted a two-player experience had to rely on community mods like the fan-made “Seamless Co-op Duos” workaround, which gained traction but remained unofficial and lacked proper balancing. Now, those same players can finally drop the mods and run the game as intended, with full two-player support and optimized content for duos.
Elden Ring: Nightreign Duo mode
Nightreign was already a wild ride solo or with a trio, but this two-player patch might just be the sweet spot fans were hoping for. Whether you're grinding Relics with a buddy or taking down procedurally generated bosses together, Duo Expeditions makes the adventure through Limveld feel more personal, and a lot more manageable. And if you’ve been waiting to jump into Nightreign until duo play was official? Your time comes July 30.
