Dota 2 Patch Notes Fix Hero Abilities

Valve has just rolled out Patch 7.39b for Dota 2, and while it’s not a major gameplay overhaul, it does a lot of behind-the-scenes work to tighten up the experience. From long-standing client crashes to some strange courier behavior and a batch of ability-binding bugs, this patch is all about smoothing out the rough edges following recent updates.

About Dota 2

Dota 2 is a 2013 multiplayer online battle arena video game by Valve. The game is a sequel to Defense of the Ancients, a community-created mod for Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. Despite criticism going towards its steep learning curve and overall complexity, Dota 2 is praised for its rewarding gameplay, production quality, and faithfulness to its predecessor, with many considering it to be one of the greatest video games of all time.

Bug Fixes and UI Tweaks Take the Lead

One of the biggest focuses in 7.39b is stability. Valve has fixed a string of crashes affecting both the client and server, with special attention paid to the new Settings menu that’s been causing headaches. Input issues—like keys bound to the Alt modifier triggering unintended actions—have also been resolved, and keybinding overall should now behave more reliably.

The patch also reintroduces several UI settings that went missing after recent updates. Players can once again enable features like the Query Panel, Queued Orders on the HUD, and ability videos in tooltips. There’s even a new setting that lets players disable per unit hotkeys during custom games, which should be a welcome option for modders and map makers.

Courier Behavior Finally Gets Some Love

If you’ve had issues with the courier ignoring orders or pulling from the stash when it shouldn't, 7.39b has you covered. Valve has cleaned up multiple courier-related bugs, including one where it would execute stash grabs in the wrong shop context or drop queued orders after transferring items. The courier HUD has also been updated to better reflect its current state—no more question mark icons when it’s moving around aimlessly.

Auto-Deliver mode now behaves more consistently too. The courier will stick to its last command even after switching delivery modes, which should reduce the number of lost items mid-match.

Hero Ability Fixes Hit a Wide Range of Issues

A significant chunk of the patch is dedicated to fixing hero abilities that weren’t working as intended. Several heroes—including Centaur Warrunner, Dawnbreaker, Disruptor, and Io—had abilities that couldn’t be bound at all, which has now been corrected. There were also mechanical issues across the board, from Bloodseeker’s Bloodrage bypassing Linken’s Sphere to Elder Titan’s spirit not returning automatically when using Echo Stomp.

Other notable changes include fixes to visual effects like Roshan’s Roar not playing correctly, and gameplay inconsistencies like Magnus’ Reverse Polarity not applying stun animations or Monkey King’s sub-abilities being improperly stealable. Even small but frustrating bugs, like incorrect VO lines for Muerta or Tinker’s Keen Conveyance not casting correctly, have been tackled.

Ability Draft and Custom Games See Key Fixes

Custom games and Ability Draft weren’t left out either. The patch includes a fix for crashes that occurred in custom lobbies with more than seven players, and several improvements were made to Ability Draft’s talent recognition and ability compatibility. Autocast toggling, model detection, and interaction with specific shards and facets now behave more as expected.

Dota+ and Heroes’ Hoard Get Minor Adjustments

For players using Dota+, the item suggestion system should now be smarter during the late game. Previously, the system would sometimes suggest duplicate items if clicked too quickly or run out of suggestions altogether—both issues are now fixed. Valve also adjusted trading and gifting settings for the Spring 2025 Heroes’ Hoard, which were incorrectly configured at launch.

Final Thoughts

Patch 7.39b might not bring flashy new content or sweeping meta shifts, but it does a lot of the necessary cleanup work that makes the day-to-day Dota 2 experience better. With so many backend fixes, improved UI settings, and tighter ability behavior, this update is a solid step in keeping the game stable and polished heading into the summer season. Players can check out the full patch notes in the game client or on the official Dota 2 platform for all the technical details.
