Delabs has announced that it had successfully closed another funding round, bringing its total raised to $12 million to date. The achievement comes after Delabs' much-anticipated kart racing game, Rumble Racing Star, passed a successful invite-only playtest. The team also recently released their whitepaper v1 and teased their $DELABS token launch.
Polygon Ventures, an investor in Delabs Games, expressed confidence in the company's vision, stating: "The team is combining traditional gameplay with the dynamic potential of web3."
Delabs, known as the web3 arm of South Korean game studio 4:33, is not solely focused on Rumble Racing Star. The company is actively working on other projects, including their successful NFT mint of the dystopian RPG Metabolts which occurred on February 26th. Additionally, Delabs is in the development stages of the Unreal shooter Space Frontier.
Furthermore, Delabs revealed plans for its $DELABS token launch scheduled for 2024, underscoring the company's commitment to exploring the possibilities of web3 gaming.
Having previously secured $4.7 million in seed funding, led by Hashed, Delabs Games is positioned to expand its footprint in the web3 gaming space. The company's portfolio includes the three aforementioned titles in development: Rumble Racing Star, Space Frontier, and Metabolts – each catering to diverse gaming preferences and aunciences.
Delabs Games' design philosophy prioritizes wide audience appeal, cross-platform compatibility, and the cultivation of a vibrant esports ecosystem. The integration of web3 elements is seamless, ensuring players don't need to download any additional wallets.
Comprising industry veterans, including those who contributed to Nexon's hit game Kart Rider, Delabs Games seeks to recreate that magic in their upcoming titles. The emphasis on inclusivity is evident in Rumble Racing Star, featuring expressive characters, humor-infused weapons, and a visually lighter style compared to traditional racing games like Mario Kart.
In Rumble Racing Star, players can race with their NFTs, each possessing unique abilities. Space Frontier and Metabolts offer players creative control, allowing them to shape aspects of the game such as items, modes, and levels.
Delabs recently held its inaugural public playtest for the highly anticipated dystopian RPG, Metabolts. The playtest ran from January 22nd to January 26th, the week-long trial was exclusively available to Delabs Adventure Pass holders and players located in Canada, Thailand, and Vietnam. The primary goal was to gather essential player feedback, assess retention rates, and gauge initial reactions to the gameplay, providing valuable insights for ongoing improvements.
Metabolts, one of Delabs' trio of flagship titles, immerses players in a narrative-driven RPG experience set in a future world on the brink of collapse. The backdrop involves a central bank collapse, prompting survivors to navigate a new alternative currency—a symbolic representation, according to the developer, of decentralized currencies challenging central authorities.
Expressing enthusiasm about offering players a first taste of the Metabolts universe, Delabs CEO Joonmo Kwon said: "This playtest is a crucial step in gathering valuable insights for enhancing the overall gaming experience." Exclusive early access was granted to Delabs Adventure Pass NTF holders, while players in the designated regions could download the game via Google Play or the App Store and try it out.
In a recent interview, Kwon emphasized the disruptive potential of web3 games, highlighting the success of Delabs Adventure Pass as the company's first mint. This pass aims to unite all Delabs games, enhancing player experiences across titles with various benefits.
Kwon said he "envisions web3 games as a solution to challenges in traditional gaming, providing players with lasting digital assets, fostering loyalty, and creating a sustainable relationship between players and gaming companies."
As a flagship partner of Polygon, Delabs aims to make significant strides in advancing the web3 gaming industry. Urvit Goel, head of global business development at Polygon Labs, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating that Delabs, with Polygon's technology, is poised to attract and engage millions of new players, fostering a thriving community for secure, seamless, and immersive gaming experiences.
