US-based esports organization Cloud9 has entered into a partnership with web3 infrastructure provider Theta Network to develop an AI-powered chatbot named Nimbus. The collaboration represents a move toward combining artificial intelligence and esports engagement in a more structured and interactive way.

Scheduled for release in 2025, Nimbus will serve as a Cloud9-branded chatbot offering real-time tournament updates, team statistics, and tailored insights to users on Discord and Cloud9’s platforms. This initiative aims to enhance the fan experience by delivering relevant information in a conversational format, accessible during and between matches.

Club9 Loyalty Program

In addition to its informational capabilities, Nimbus will be integrated into Cloud9’s Club9 loyalty program. This integration allows users to earn experience points (XP) through meaningful interaction with the chatbot. As users accumulate XP, they will unlock exclusive rewards and advance within the Club9 community structure. This approach aligns with broader efforts to increase fan retention and engagement through interactive digital experiences.

Cloud9 co-founder and CEO Jack Etienne stated that the organization remains focused on innovation and fan engagement within the esports industry. According to Etienne, the partnership with Theta Network is intended to offer an experience that goes beyond delivering match data by encouraging fans to engage in new and more personalized ways.

Mitch Liu, co-founder and CEO of Theta Labs, noted the analytical nature of esports audiences and described the project as an opportunity to develop technology that aligns with how fans interact with competitive gaming. He emphasized that the use of Theta’s edge computing infrastructure would support the chatbot’s real-time performance and allow for deeper integration into Cloud9’s loyalty program.
