Cirque du Soleil enters the metaverse through a new partnership with The Sandbox, introducing interactive web3 experiences, digital avatars, and virtual collectibles.
Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group has announced a new collaboration with The Sandbox, a decentralized virtual world platform. This partnership marks Cirque du Soleil’s first official entry into the metaverse and introduces a new format for experiencing its unique style of live entertainment. Known globally for its theatrical productions and innovative stagecraft, Cirque du Soleil aims to bring its performances into immersive, digital environments that expand the ways audiences can engage with its brand.
Cirque du Soleil Partners with The Sandbox
The collaboration is designed to merge Cirque du Soleil’s storytelling expertise with The Sandbox’s interactive digital landscape. Sébastien Borget, Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder of The Sandbox, emphasized the shared creative goals in a recent statement. He noted that Cirque du Soleil has consistently redefined the live entertainment space and that this new partnership enables both organizations to explore digital forms of storytelling that maintain the emotion and engagement of physical performances.
Noah Lemieux Bernier, Vice President of Digital and Customer Experience at Cirque du Soleil, also commented on the significance of the partnership. He explained that while the company has explored digital formats before, this initiative introduces new ways to connect with audiences in web3 gaming. By offering interactive and social experiences, Cirque du Soleil aims to engage both long-time followers and new users in a more continuous and accessible way.
As part of this initiative, two separate digital experiences are being developed for The Sandbox. The first confirmed title is a reimagined version of LUZIA, a production originally inspired by Mexican culture and known for its acrobatics, visual design, and stage innovation. This new version will be adapted specifically for The Sandbox, allowing users to step into the narrative in an interactive format rather than observing from the audience.
The second blockchain experience has not yet been publicly revealed, but according to both companies, it will continue the tradition of combining performance artistry with immersive environments. Both experiences are intended to preserve the core creative values of Cirque du Soleil while making use of the technical capabilities of The Sandbox platform.

In addition to the immersive experiences, the collaboration will introduce digital avatars, themed collectibles, and other creative assets. These items will be available for users to earn through participation or purchase in The Sandbox Marketplace. The assets are designed to reflect the visual identity of Cirque du Soleil’s shows and will be compatible with the broader ecosystem of The Sandbox, enhancing the personalization and creativity available to players and creators.
The partnership between Cirque du Soleil and The Sandbox represents a broader shift in how traditional entertainment brands are approaching digital spaces. By entering the metaverse, Cirque du Soleil is expanding its reach beyond live events and exploring new formats that align with evolving consumer behavior. The initiative highlights how web3 technologies can offer extended engagement opportunities and more versatile storytelling frameworks.
