BreederDAO has been announced as the winner of the Phase III closed playtest for Project Awakening, an online hackathon hosted by CCP Games, the developers behind EVE Online. This event marks an important achievement in BreederDAO’s three-year history.
"BreederDAO's victory in Project Awakening's phase III hackathon is a testament to their ingenuity and vision," said Hilmar V. Pétursson, CEO of CCP Games. "Their entry, along with others, helps us push the boundaries as we continue to build our platform for creating virtual worlds."
BreederDAO Wins Project Awakening Hackathon by CCP Games
CCP Games, renowned for their work in the MMO genre, organized several playtests for Project Awakening throughout 2024. Project Awakening is a single-shard survival experience set in the EVE Universe, utilizing blockchain technology. The recent playtest, held from May 23rd to June 11th, involved around 5000 players who tested a level of the game over six weeks.
Project Awakening is a continuation of CCP Games’ 26-year history of creating immersive virtual worlds. Using the EVM-Compatible Carbon Development Platform and MUD by Lattice, this persistent world is governed by digital physics, allowing players to build within the game environment. This architecture supports third-party development through blockchain technology and cryptography.

Set in a vast, decayed cosmos, Project Awakening invites developers and players to explore and shape their environment using blockchain technology. The persistent universe emphasizes open third-party development to redefine the relationship between virtual worlds and players.
BreederDAO won by creating an environment that reflects the concept of Autonomous Worlds, where players can shape their gameplay, encouraging innovation and creativity. Their system of entertainment, built on the base game, showcased various game modes and a suite of framework modules, introducing new experiences within Project Awakening.
The hackathon included 12 finalists, such as Team Scrypted of ScryptedInc, VERSE, and Team Kalbuir. Each entry highlighted the talent within the gaming community and reinforced CCP Games’ commitment to advanced gaming experiences with Project Awakening.

"We are honored to be recognized by CCP Games, a pioneer in virtual world complexity and in-game economies," said Renz Chong, co-founder and CEO of BreederDAO. "This win showcases our commitment to transforming the gaming experience and unlocking the creative potential of user-generated content."
BreederDAO empowers players, creators, and world-builders by developing scalable infrastructure for web2.5 to fully on-chain games and Autonomous Worlds. The DAO emerged during the Axie Infinity boom, addressing a market gap by providing liquidity solutions for NFT assets in web3 games.
