Axie Classic Updates: Expanded Tower Mode and More

Axie Infinity’s Classic mode has received a new set of updates ahead of Season 8, bringing improvements to gameplay, user interface, and in-game mechanics. The latest changes include the expansion of Tower Mode, the introduction of Gear utility, and a refined quest system designed to enhance both new and experienced players’ experiences. These updates aim to provide a smoother onboarding process for new players while increasing strategic depth for veterans.

New Quest System

A significant addition in this update is the introduction of Starter and Guardian Mode quests. Starter Mode quests are designed to help new players get familiar with Axie Classic without requiring axie ownership. Through these quests, players can earn Gold, Gems, and other rewards by completing basic tasks such as logging in, participating in PvP battles, and clearing Tower Mode floors on easier difficulty levels. This system provides a structured way for newcomers to understand game mechanics while earning useful in-game currency.

Guardian Mode quests, in contrast, cater to more experienced players who own or have been delegated three axies. These quests offer higher difficulty challenges, rewarding players with Gold, Dust, and Premium Pass rewards for those who purchase the Battle Pass. Tasks in Guardian Mode include achieving PvP victories and maintaining win streaks in the Cursed Coliseum. These challenges test players’ skills and require strategic decision-making to maximize rewards.

Expansion of Tower Mode

Tower Mode, a player-versus-environment (PvE) feature in Axie Infinity Classic, has been expanded to include additional floors. Previously capped at five floors, the updated version now features ten levels, which will be introduced gradually. During the first week, players can access five initial floors designed to be more accessible, as they do not include environmental debuffs. The second week will introduce five additional floors with environmental challenges that increase the difficulty level, requiring more advanced tactics to progress. This expansion adds more content for players seeking structured PvE challenges and additional rewards.

Gear Utility Now Available

Gear utility, a long-anticipated feature, is now live in Axie Classic. Gear functions similarly to Runes and Charms in Axie Origins but with distinct mechanics. Players can now equip, upgrade, and craft Gear, allowing for greater customization of their axies and team compositions. However, Gear is not available in Cursed Coliseum sessions to avoid conflicts that could impact fair gameplay.

If an axie has a Gear conflict, the team setup will automatically revert to the previous valid configuration, including Artifacts. As part of this update, all Ronin addresses linked to an Axie Classic account will receive a free Level 3 HP Gear. Players can check their in-game inventory to claim this bonus item.

Adjustments to Attack+ Buff Mechanic

The mechanics of the Attack+ Buff have been revised to provide clearer effects and better game balance. Previously, this buff lasted for a set number of rounds, but it now applies for a specific number of turns starting from the next card played. The Cockadoodledoo ability has also been updated to grant the Attack+ effect to the entire team while removing the Morale stat boost. Each axie will receive the Attack+ bonus for one turn, with the option to upgrade the effect to Attack++—a 40% attack boost—by using an additional Cockadoodledoo card. Axies can now stack up to five Cockadoodledoo buffs, but unlike before, when a single axie used a card, the entire team no longer loses the buff.

Interface and Gameplay Improvements

Several user interface updates and gameplay refinements have been introduced to improve the overall player experience. The artifact icon has been restored to the Confirm Challenge UI, and a new feature allows players to delete a guild under specific conditions, such as having no axies, GP, or AXS in the Vault and only one remaining member. Various bug fixes have been implemented, addressing issues with pagination, tooltip displays, and incorrect UI elements.

Queue times have been reduced significantly during the off-season, improving matchmaking efficiency. The artifact unequip function has been optimized, and a card name search feature has been added to the card collection system. The friend request system has also been enhanced, enabling players to accept or reject all friend requests at once. Other improvements include better accessory updates for axies, enhanced floor information displays in Tower Mode, and modifications to Starter Mode that streamline team selection when no free teams are available.
