Web3 native startup Artie is ready to revolutionize the world of social media gaming by bringing its unique blend of "app-quality" games to Meta's Threads platform. Backed by industry veterans such as Mark Pincus, founder of Zynga, and the Winklevoss twins, the Los Angeles-based company aims to replicate the success of engaging games like FarmVille and Words With Friends, but with a focus on mobile users.

Artie's approach is based on leveraging recent advancements such as 5G networks, faster GPUs, and cloud technologies. Their plan initially was to offer games on the web browser, but with the rise of Threads, the startup has shifted focus, and now aims to create a superior gaming experience tailored specifically for a younger audience on the platform.

Artie's CEO, Ryan Horrigan, praises Threads for bringing back the fun of playing games with friends and believes that this sets the platform apart from more business or news-oriented platforms like Twitter. Threads allows users to interact with friends they've made on Instagram, as well as connect with celebrities and other users, creating a unique social experience.

Accessing Artie's games is simple. Users can just click on game links provided in a Threads user's bio or post. This link will direct them straight to the game via the embedded browser within the social media platform. Users can also log in using their social handles, email addresses, or phone numbers to play with friends and family.

Artie's unique solution bypasses the need for downloads, a significant advantage considering that their target audience, people aged between 18 and 35, typically don't download any apps in a month. By avoiding downloads, Artie also bypasses the app store commissions for Apple and Google. Even though their games are not subject to platform-specific guidelines, Artie is committed to privacy and abides by laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act and Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation.

Users who wish to play Artie's games regularly can save them to their home screens as progressive web apps. And since these games operate through browsers, they allow for cross-platform multiplayer experiences, seamlessly connecting Android and iOS users.

Artie's first game, Pong Legends, has already shown significant promise during testing in the U.S., Brazil, India, and Southeast Asia. Promoted on platforms like TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, Pong Legends has attracted over 150,000 players in just a few months, with users spending an average of seven to 10 minutes per gaming session.

Artie has ambitious plans for the future, with a public beta for Pong Legends coming this fall and two additional games slated for release next year. They aim to revitalize existing game genres with fresh ideas and partnerships and intend to monetize through in-game purchases.

While social media giants like Snap and Meta have experimented with gaming, Artie's vision and approach sets them apart. By offering deeper, more engaging games that cross the boundary between casual and mid-core genres, they're poised to provide a superior gaming experience that has so far eluded the instant games offered by competitors.

Having raised $36.5 million in seed and Series A funding, Artie is planning to secure additional capital after the success of their initial game. Their ultimate vision, however, is to generate revenue, achieve profitability, and become a self-sustained business over time.
