Addressing the Growing Challenge of AI Bots in Web3 Games

Razer, a leading gaming hardware and software company, has partnered with World, the developers of World ID, to tackle the increasing presence of AI-driven bots in online games. The collaboration introduces “Razer ID verified by World ID,” a new identity verification system designed to confirm that players are real humans. By integrating this technology, Razer and World aim to address one of the most pressing challenges in modern multiplayer gaming: maintaining fair competition by reducing bot interference.

The new verification system is set to launch in TOKYO BEAST, an upcoming game on Immutable set in the year 2124, where humans coexist with advanced androids. The game features prediction-based battles, NFTs, and a highly competitive environment where player authenticity is crucial. With the implementation of World ID, developers can ensure that specific game modes remain accessible only to verified human players, reducing unfair advantages created by AI bots.

The Impact of Bots on Online Gaming

The rise of AI-driven bots has significantly altered the online gaming experience. A survey cited by Razer indicates that 87% of U.S. gamers want to know whether they are competing against bots. Additionally, 59% of respondents report encountering bots regularly, while 74% believe that bots negatively impact their gaming experience. The survey also reveals that 18% of gamers have completely stopped playing certain games due to excessive bot interference.

According to Razer’s Chief Corporate Officer, Wei-Pin Choo, creating a verified gaming community is essential to maintaining fair play. He emphasizes that developers need tools to establish trusted, human-only gaming experiences that prevent AI-driven manipulation. By leveraging World ID, Razer seeks to provide a reliable method for ensuring that online gaming environments remain competitive and enjoyable.

More About Immutable's TOKYO BEAST

TOKYO BEAST introduces a new style of gameplay that integrates blockchain technology with a win-loss prediction system. Set in a futuristic version of Tokyo in the year 2124, the game takes place in a world where androids known as replicants are widespread, and humans live in comfort as their owners. The game’s core competition, known as "XENO-karate," is a high-stakes tournament where androids, referred to as "BEAST," battle for supremacy.

Players can engage with TOKYO BEAST as competitors or spectators. Competitor players form teams of four BEAST androids to compete in the "XENO-karate" tournament, using strategy to advance through battles. Spectators, on the other hand, can predict the results of weekend championship matches, earning in-game rewards such as jewels and virtual currency for accurate predictions. The combination of strategic gameplay and outcome predictions creates an immersive and interactive experience.

How World ID Enhances Security and Privacy

World ID, developed by Sam Altman and Alex Blania, is a privacy-focused digital identity solution designed to verify users without collecting personal data. Unlike traditional identity systems, World ID confirms that a user is a unique human while maintaining their anonymity. This verification method allows game developers to implement strict anti-bot measures without compromising player privacy.

Beyond fair competition, the integration of World ID offers additional benefits for game developers. It can help reduce online harassment, streamline user login processes, and strengthen in-game economies by ensuring that transactions involve legitimate players. Verified users will also have access to Razer Gold, a payment system that supports in-game purchases for thousands of digital products and services.

Tiago Sada, Chief Product Officer at Tools for Humanity, a key contributor to World, highlights that World ID helps players differentiate between human and AI-generated interactions while safeguarding their privacy. With an increasing number of gamers expressing support for biometric solutions, the initiative aligns with broader industry trends. According to the same survey, 75% of gamers who play more than 10 hours a week favor biometric verification to distinguish human players from bots. Nearly 60% of all gamers believe it is essential to know whether they are playing against another person or an AI.

Expanding Identity Verification in Gaming

The new verification tool is currently available in 23 countries, including the United States, Japan, Germany, Singapore, and South Korea. Players will begin by using their Razer ID to access the World App, where they can create a World ID to complete the verification process.

As the gaming industry continues to evolve with AI and web3 technologies, Razer and World see their collaboration as a step toward a more secure and immersive gaming landscape. With AI bots becoming more prevalent and concerns about fair play growing, the companies aim to establish a new standard for identity verification in gaming, especially as digital ownership and real-money economies gain traction.

This initiative also marks Razer’s continued expansion into infrastructure-level gaming solutions. While the company is widely recognized for its high-performance gaming hardware and software, it is increasingly investing in security and payment solutions tailored to modern gamers. More integrations of “Razer ID verified by World ID” are expected in future titles, with TOKYO BEAST serving as the first implementation. Both Razer and World view this as the beginning of a broader effort to prioritize human-first experiences in gaming as automation and AI continue to shape the industry.
