About A16z Speedrun

The Speedrun program primarily targets startups working in artificial intelligence (AI) and interactive experiences. Eligible projects can include a range of innovations, from AI-driven tools to entertainment and gaming ventures. The selection process is highly competitive, with less than 1% of applicants securing a spot in the program. Those chosen not only receive financial investment but also gain access to mentorship from a16z experts, networking opportunities with industry professionals, and connections with alumni from previous Speedrun cohorts.

Over $100 Million Since 2023

Since the launch of the program in 2023, a16z has invested over $100 million in more than 120 startups, demonstrating its commitment to supporting emerging companies in the AI and interactive technology sectors. The previous edition, SR004, attracted over 6,000 applicants, with 42 companies ultimately selected. Among them, 69% were AI-native startups operating in industries such as commerce, development, and storytelling. The cohort also featured founders from multiple countries, including Canada, Israel, Turkey, London, and Sweden, reflecting the program’s international reach.

According to Josh Lu, Principal at a16z, the Speedrun program is designed for founders who are shaping the future of their industries rather than following existing trends. He emphasized that the initiative offers more than just financial backing, providing access to a16z’s extensive network, hands-on mentorship, and a community of like-minded entrepreneurs. The program aims to serve as a launchpad, helping startups refine their ideas, scale their operations, and position themselves for long-term success.

As Speedrun continues to attract top talent and groundbreaking ideas, its impact on the startup ecosystem remains notable.
