Riot Games has officially announced that its upcoming 2v2 fighting game, 2XKO, will enter closed beta on September 9, 2025 for PC. Alongside the beta reveal, Riot confirmed that Vi, the fan-favorite enforcer from League of Legends and Arcane, will be added as a playable champion for the first time.

What IS 2XKO?

2XKO is Riot’s new tag-based fighting game where players form two-person teams and switch between champions during fast-paced battles. It brings League of Legends characters into the fighting game scene with reimagined movesets, high-skill combos, and a heavy focus on team synergy. Players can tag in their partner mid-combo, use assist mechanics, and work together to pressure opponents in both local and online matches.

Originally introduced under the codename Project L, 2XKO has been in development for several years and is finally gearing up for public play with this major closed beta test.

Key Details on the 2XKO Closed Beta

The closed beta will begin on September 9 exclusively on PC. Riot stated the servers will stay online 24 hours a day, except during scheduled maintenance periods. This marks a big step toward live service readiness and may serve as a soft launch for the core experience.

2XKO Announces Closed beta

Players who joined previous Alpha Lab tests or console playtests will automatically get access. New players can sign up now on the official website. Riot will be sending invites in waves leading up to the beta. All progress made during the beta will carry over to console platforms once the game is released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, making this test an early start for those who want to build a foundation.

Vi Joins the Fight

Alongside the beta announcement, Riot revealed that Vi is joining the playable roster. Known for her explosive punches and brawler style, Vi is expected to bring fast-paced close combat and high-pressure tactics into the game.

Players will also be able to try out Vi during EVO 2025 from August 1 to 3, where Riot will be running demos, community events, and livestreamed matches at their booth. Vi joins an already confirmed roster that includes Ahri, Ekko, Yasuo, Illaoi, Darius, Jinx, and Braum. Each champion in 2XKO is designed for 2v2 play, with unique assist options and team-based mechanics.

Final Thoughts

This is the most important milestone for 2XKO so far. After years of development and early previews, the closed beta will give players their first real look at the core gameplay systems, balance, and online performance. It also confirms Riot’s commitment to full cross-progression, competitive play, and community feedback. With a growing champion pool and a dedicated beta format, 2XKO is shaping up to be Riot’s next major long-term title.

The wait is almost over. 2XKO’s closed beta is set to bring League champions to the fighting game world like never before. Whether you are looking to master Vi’s gauntlets or practice your assist timing with a duo partner, this is your chance to jump into Riot’s bold new entry in the genre. Signups are now open and the battle begins this September.
