The Forgotten Temple is one of the most important early locations in Hytale. It unlocks the Memory system, a core progression feature that directly affects crafting recipes, teleportation, and long-term character upgrades. Even if you gather the right materials, many items and systems remain locked until Memories are restored, making this temple a required stop rather than optional exploration.
How to Find the Forgotten Temple
When you create a new world in Hytale, the Forgotten Temple is automatically marked on your navigation bar at the top of the screen. The marker appears as a teleporter-style icon, shown as a small white circle surrounded by four arrow-like shapes.
The temple always spawns close to your initial spawn point, usually within a short walk. If the icon does not immediately appear, open the full map by pressing M, as the marker may load after a brief period.
Tip
Craft basic copper gear before making the trip. You'll encounter hostile mobs like Wolves, Bears, and Skeletons along the way, and the temple itself has a dangerous guardian.
Entering the Forgotten Temple
An Earthen Golem guards the portal leading into the Forgotten Temple. This enemy deals heavy damage but is slow and does not need to be defeated.
You can safely sprint past the Golem and enter the portal, as it will not follow you inside. Fighting the Golem is optional and not required to unlock the Memory system. Before entering the portal, check both sides of the room for hidden chests that contain early-game loot.
Passing through the portal transports you to the temple’s interior, which exists in a separate underground area.

Unlocking the Memory System
Inside the temple, you will find a calm, mystical chamber filled with passive creatures and NPCs rather than hostile enemies. Follow the stone pathway downward until you reach the central structure of the room.
At the center stands the Heart of Orbis, a glowing blue statue surrounded by several plinths. This object is the key to unlocking Memories.
Walk up to the Heart of Orbis and press F to interact with it. A notification appears in the bottom-left corner of the screen confirming that the Memory system has been unlocked.
From this point onward, your character is able to collect Memories during normal gameplay.
How to Collect and Restore Memories
Memories are collected automatically the first time you approach creatures or characters in the world. You do not need to defeat enemies or complete specific actions. When a Memory is collected, a blue light travels to your character and a notification appears on the screen.
Memories can be collected from:
Hostile enemies
Passive animals
NPCs in villages
Bosses and unique creatures
To restore Memories, return to the Heart of Orbis and interact with it. Select the restore option at the bottom of the interface. Restoring Memories fills a progression bar that unlocks rewards such as new crafting recipes, teleporter access, and inventory upgrades.
Why the Forgotten Temple Should Be a Priority
The Forgotten Temple and Memory system are core progression mechanics in Hytale. Many advanced recipes, teleporters, and backpack upgrades remain locked until Memories are restored.
Visiting the Forgotten Temple early ensures smoother progression and prevents unnecessary limitations later in the game. Once unlocked, Memories are collected naturally as you explore, making this system easy to maintain throughout your playthrough.
