Sony’s first State of Play Japan presentation delivered a focused look at upcoming games developed in Japan and across Asia, along with updates on major franchises and new PlayStation 5 hardware. The 40-minute broadcast featured confirmed release dates, DLC expansions, gameplay trailers, and a new PS5-branded monitor. From role-playing games and fighting titles to racing updates and horror remakes, the showcase covered a wide range of genres scheduled for late 2025 and 2026.

Major RPGs Take Center Stage

One of the first highlights of the presentation was Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, which returned with a new gameplay trailer and confirmed its February 5, 2026 release date. The updated version showcases refined diorama-style visuals and modernized presentation while preserving the structure of the original role-playing game.

FromSoftware also revealed the first DLC for Elden Ring Nightreign. Titled The Forsaken Hollows, the expansion launches on December 4, 2025. The trailer introduced new environments, enemies, and familiar design elements that reflect the studio’s approach to dark fantasy action RPGs. As a multiplayer-focused spin-off connected to Elden Ring, Nightreign continues to expand its content roadmap.

Square Enix provided an update on Octopath Traveler 0, confirming that a demo is now available ahead of the game’s December 4, 2025 release. Players can experience the opening hours of the HD-2D adventure, with progress carrying over to the full version.

Fighting Games and Competitive Play Updates

Arc System Works shared new details about Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, including a second closed beta scheduled for December 5 through December 7. Characters shown during the gameplay trailer included Spider-Man and Ghost Rider, offering a preview of the roster variety expected at launch. The three-day beta will allow selected players to test online systems and character balance ahead of release.

In racing, Sega confirmed new crossover content for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The SpongeBob SquarePants pack arrives on November 20, 2025, while additional characters such as NiGHTS and Super Monkey Ball’s AiAi will join as free updates across December, January, and February. The continued expansion signals Sega’s strategy of post-launch character support.

Horror and Action Titles Get Release Dates

Koei Tecmo confirmed that Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake will launch on March 12, 2026. The trailer emphasized updated visuals and atmosphere while maintaining the core survival horror structure of the original release.

The psychological horror series BrokenLore also received updates. BrokenLore: Unfollow is set to release on January 16, 2026, while BrokenLore: Ascend is scheduled for summer 2026. Both titles continue the series’ focus on narrative-driven horror gameplay.

Meanwhile, Never Grave: The Witch and the Curse, a Metroidvania roguelike published by Pocketpair Publishing, confirmed a March 5, 2026 launch date. Gameplay footage highlighted boss encounters, animated combat, and environmental exploration.

Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Wilds will receive Free Title Update 4 on December 16, 2025. While details were limited, the update is expected to introduce new endgame content and seasonal events.

DLC Expansions Across Multiple Franchises

Additional downloadable content was revealed for Once Upon a Katamari, Pac-Man World 2: Re-Pac, Digimon Story: Time Stranger, and Super Robot Wars Y.
