Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - Xbox Wire

Verso’s Drafts is easily one of the most playful and content-dense areas in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Added as part of the Thank You Update, this endgame playground blends platforming puzzles, mini-games, secret bosses, and some of the best cosmetic and weapon rewards in the entire game. It feels less like a traditional dungeon and more like a surreal amusement park designed to test everything you have learned so far.

If you need guidance on unlocking Verso’s Drafts or are unsure how to enter the area, refer to our guide on how to access Verso’s Drafts.

After entering Verso’s Drafts, follow the main path uphill until you reach the Open Playground Expedition Flag. This is your main hub for the area.

Immediately behind the flag, head down the slope to the cliff edge to find two new enemy types: Machinapieds and Barbasucette. Defeat them to receive the Double Third Pictos. This is an early pickup and a good way to test your timing against the new enemies.

Gestral Baths

From the Open Playground Flag, go down to the right to reach Gestral Baths. This section is full of small pools and friendly Gestrals, but it also hides valuable loot. In the lower pool area, look behind the waterfall to find the Slowing Attack Pictos on a rock formation. This is one of the best early finds in the DLC because it directly improves combat control.

Near the large pool, a small aggressive Gestral blocks the diving board. Use any attack to knock it into the water, then walk to the end of the board to pick up Esquiaro (Monoco’s weapon).

Below the diving board are three rings. Landing in each ring rewards a unique item. After every successful dive, you must speak to the Gestral standing near the water’s edge to claim the reward.

A vertical zipline under the diving board helps you reset quickly for repeated attempts.

Near the Gestral Baths Expedition Flag, there is a basic hopscotch board on the ground. Step on the tiles in ascending order starting at 1. When you finish, an item appears on the far end.

Esquie Statue Color Puzzle

Before leaving the Gestral Baths, talk to the large lifeguard Gestral standing near the Esquie statues in the water. He will explain that the statues are out of balance and need their colors corrected. To solve the puzzle, adjust the two statues closest to the lifeguard so that the left statue is orange and the right statue is blue. Next, move to the statue positioned beneath the waterfall with its arms raised and ensure that it is set to blue. Finally, go to the highest pool where two Esquie statues are clasping hands and change the left statue to blue and the right statue to orange.

Once all the statues are set correctly, return to the lifeguard Gestral to complete the puzzle. You will receive a Piece of Cake along with the Double Bun Hairstyle for Monoco. The Piece of Cake is an important item that is required for later content in Verso’s Drafts, so make sure you do not skip this step.

From the Gestral Baths Expedition Flag, continue downhill into the wooded area. After a short walk, the path splits, with a slope leading left and a narrow plank route leading right. Take the plank path and cross carefully to reach the opposite side. At the end of this route, you will find the Empowered Healer Pictos, which is worth picking up before moving on.

After collecting it, drop down from the ledge and proceed deeper into the woodland, where several enemy encounters await. A roaming Machinapieds can be found moving along the slope in this area, and defeating it rewards you with the Longer Break Pictos. Nearby, close to the large door with googly eyes, a Franctale patrols the clearing. Defeating this enemy grants the SOS Healing Tint Pictos, making this section an important stop for strengthening your party’s survivability.

Broken Hopscotch Puzzle

This puzzle is the most time-consuming in Verso’s Drafts because the tiles are scattered. You must step on the tiles in ascending order, and one tile only appears after a specific fight.

Tiles 1 to 4:

  • 1: On the steps in front of the googly-eyed door

  • 2: Up the slope to the right of the door, first right turn

  • 3: Across the clearing beside a tree

  • 4: Near the giant white and purple tree

Tiles 5 to 8:

  • 5: In a small ledge alcove (also contains Gradient Parry Pictos)

  • 6: Behind the giant tree

  • 7: Down the slope behind the tree, to your right

  • 8: Appears only after defeating two Licorne on the raised overlook near the large pool

After defeating the two Licorne, you will receive the Damage Share Pictos, and you can also break a nearby glass jar to collect three Colour of Lumina.

Final Tiles:

  • 9: On the slope toward the Reverie Path Flag, against the first rocks

  • Esquie tile: Directly beneath the giant purple tree to trigger the reward

Paint Cage and Treehouse

Near the giant purple tree area, crouch beneath a fallen tree to reach a Paint Cage. You must destroy three targets using Free Aim.

Targets:

  • Target 1: In the leaves behind the cage

  • Target 2: In a rock alcove to the left

  • Target 3: Floating between two yellow-leaved trees to the right

As a reward, you will obtain a Chroma Elixir Shard. After picking it up, use the nearby vertical zipline to reach the raised walkway above.

At the end of the raised walkway, use the grapple to cross the gap and reach a treehouse. Once inside, follow the path as it loops to the right until you arrive at a piano area. Check behind the piano to find Sucreso, Verso’s weapon. Before leaving, take the time to climb up to the roof of the treehouse and step onto the balcony, where you can collect a large amount of currency totaling around 42,000 Chroma.

Toy Boat Quest

In the pool located one level below the diving rings, you will find three Gestrals gathered together. Speaking with them starts a short quest in which they explain that their toy boat was lost after falling over a nearby waterfall.

To retrieve it, head to the waterfall edge where two Licorne are positioned and defeat them to earn a Perfect Chroma Catalyst. Once they are dealt with, turn back and move behind the waterfall to find a small hidden alcove containing the Toy Boat.

Return the Toy Boat to the three Gestrals to complete the quest and receive a Piece of Cake. While they describe it as a key to the “funnest fun,” the more important detail is that this item is required for later progression in Verso’s Drafts.

Seesaw Challenge

Near the hopscotch tiles floating in the water, you will find a small Gestral sitting alone on a seesaw. Speak with the Gestral and agree to join the activity to begin the challenge. The goal is to successfully time four jumps in a row without failing.

The trick here is patience. You need to wait until the Gestral fully lands back down on the seesaw before jumping, even though the on-screen jump indicator disappears slightly earlier. Jumping too early is the most common mistake. If you fail, you can retry as many times as needed. Completing four consecutive successful jumps rewards you with the Empowering Jumps Pictos.

Verso's Drafts represents the perfect capstone to your Expedition 33 journey, combining challenging puzzles with rewarding exploration. The area's vibrant atmosphere and unique mechanics create memorable experiences that showcase the game's creative potential. Whether you're diving for hairstyles or hunting for powerful weapons, this magical playground offers something special for every type of player.

Romanifo the Half-Baked Gestral Fight

Right next to the seesaw, you will see a Gestral named Romanifo standing near the treeline with several balloons attached. Use Free Aim to shoot all five balloons, then speak with Romanifo to initiate a unique combat encounter.

This fight does not play like a normal battle. Romanifo does not actively attack and instead fully heals at the end of each of your turns. On its turns, it becomes “angry,” which simply restores AP to your party. To deal damage, you must focus entirely on Free Aim. A balloon floating nearby can be shot to deal heavy damage, and after the first one is popped, additional balloons will begin spawning rapidly and floating upward. You need to shoot as many of these balloons as possible before they escape. Do not use standard attacks here. Continue relying on Free Aim until enough damage is dealt to end the fight.

Winning this encounter rewards you with the Trigger-Happy Pictos.

Paint Cage and Esquim Weapon for Lune

Continue uphill along the main slope until you reach a red wall with climbing handholds. Just beyond this area, you will find another Paint Cage. The three targets for this cage are all balloon-based and located nearby.

One target is held by an Esquie statue to the left of the cage, another floats above the rock directly behind it, and the third hovers over the chasm to the right. Destroy all three using Free Aim, then return to the cage to collect the Esquim weapon for Lune.

Candy Land

From the Paint Cage, head toward the stone Esquie statue and descend into the nearby purple tunnel to enter the Candy Land area. In the initial cave, you can break several glass jars to collect Chroma.

Before following the main path, take the smaller tunnel on the right and follow the curved slope upward. At the end of this side route, you will find the Alternating Critical Pictos. After collecting it, drop down to engage a Barbasucette and two Licorne. Once they are defeated, use the grapple to cross the chasm and continue forward to reach the Candy Land Expedition Flag.

Candy Land Mime Encounter

To the left of the Candy Land Flag, jump up onto a small ledge and follow the path upward. Climb a long section of handholds to reach a distant platform where a Mime enemy awaits. This Mime behaves the same way as other Mime enemies encountered earlier in the game, so no special mechanics are introduced here.

Defeating the Mime rewards you with several Monoco-themed items: the Baguettaro weapon, the Baguette Outfit, and the Baguette Hairstyle. After the fight, activate the nearby zipline to return to the cave below.

Back near the cave floor, grapple across and move into a small alcove to fight two more Barbasucette enemies. After defeating them, check the back of the arena to find an Energy Tint Shard.

From the Expedition Flag, descend the zipline on the right to confront another roaming Barbasucette. Defeat it, then smash the large glass jar nearby to open a hidden passage. After crouching through, you will reach another hopscotch section. Carefully jump across the candy platforms and hopscotch tiles to reach the far side, where an Esquie statue holds the reward.

Reward: Double Bun Hairstyle (Lune)

Before leaving the area, break another large glass jar nearby to collect three Colour of Lumina, then follow the sloping path across the bridge to reach a large open space.

Monsieur Frappe Counter Challenge

In the open area, speak with Monsieur Frappe, a large Gestral standing on the right. When prompted, choose the dialogue option that insults him and accept his counter challenge. The goal is to successfully counter three of his real attacks in a row.

This fight is designed to confuse you, as Monsieur Frappe frequently performs fake attacks meant to bait early parries. Some attacks only become real after multiple feints, while others require you to wait for a specific animation cue, such as a leap into the air or a sudden directional slash. Learning which attacks are genuine takes practice, and failure simply means retrying.

After successfully countering three attacks, the fight ends and you receive the Feint Pictos. Nearby, you can also break several glass jars to collect additional Colour of Lumina.

Chromatic Machinapieds Fight

Behind Monsieur Frappe, follow the tunnel downhill to encounter the Chromatic Machinapieds. This enemy uses enhanced versions of the standard Machinapieds attacks and can buff itself with Powerful while applying Barbapapa stacks to your party.

The fight features long combo strings, rapid punches, aerial projectiles, and a dangerous Gradient divebomb attack that must be Gradient Parried at the correct moment. Surviving this fight requires strong timing and stamina management.

Defeating the Chromatic Machinapieds rewards you with two Grandiose Chroma Catalysts, five Colour of Lumina, and one Perfect Chroma Catalyst.

Very Very Cool Gestral

After returning up the slope, you will encounter a Gestral wearing Esquie masks who complains about standing in line. Agree with him to receive a special ticket that lets you skip the queue for a ride.

You can send each party member on the ride one at a time. Each character receives a short cutscene and unlocks a unique Esquie Outfit. Once all party members have completed the ride, the Gestral also gives you another Piece of Cake. Behind the pillar nearby, you can pick up a Healing Tint Shard.

If you have collected all cake pieces up to this point, they combine automatically into the Birthday Cake item.

Chromatic Franctale

After descending the vertical zipline at the base of the main hill, you will enter an arena where the Chromatic Franctale awaits. This enemy uses familiar Franctale patterns but with added pressure through extended attack chains and overlapping mechanics. One of its standard attacks involves leaping next to a party member, striking twice with its head, delaying briefly, then following up with a third swipe and an aerial slam. After landing, it performs one final head swipe before launching into a Gradient attack.

Another returning move is the head-kicking jump sequence, but instead of a single enemy, multiple Franctales appear. You must perform several well-timed jumps in succession, waiting until each Franctale lands before reacting. The laser-based attacks also return, requiring repeated parries or dodges. Pay close attention to the visual energy pull and audio cue that signal when the lasers will fire. The Chromatic Franctale can also summon duplicates that charge lasers simultaneously, making patience and rhythm essential.

Defeating the Chromatic Franctale rewards you with two Grandiose Chroma Catalysts, five Colour of Lumina, and one Perfect Chroma Catalyst. Before leaving the arena, check the corner to collect the Esquim weapon for Maelle.

Chromatic Licorne

Later in the area, after navigating elevated platforms and triggering a short cutscene, you will be forced into a fight with the Chromatic Licorne. While its core behavior mirrors that of standard Licorne enemies, the Chromatic variant extends its attack sequences and punishes early reactions.

Its charging attack remains largely unchanged and requires a well-timed parry. However, its bouncing attack is far more demanding, as the Licorne bounces seven times instead of just a few. The first six bounces follow a steady rhythm, but the final bounce is heavily delayed, making it easy to mistime. Another attack involves firing two consecutive rainbow projectiles at the same target, which must be parried back to back.

The most dangerous move is its Gradient attack, where the Licorne rears up and releases a powerful rainbow blast. You must execute a Gradient Counter at the moment it collapses back down after spinning, or the party will take massive damage. After defeating the Chromatic Licorne, you will receive two Grandiose Chroma Catalysts, five Colour of Lumina, one Perfect Chroma Catalyst, and the Licorum weapon for Maelle.

Chromatic Barbasucette

The Chromatic Barbasucette appears near the stream in the main clearing and behaves similarly to its standard counterpart, but with longer attack chains and more frequent pressure. To make the fight manageable, immediately use Free Aim to destroy its lollipops. If left intact, these allow the Barbasucette to generate shields and extend its attack strings.

Once the lollipops are destroyed, the Barbasucette relies on sweeping melee attacks, rock throws, and ground stomps. The chromatic version performs six consecutive stomps instead of three, but they follow a consistent rhythm that can be jumped reliably once learned. Its rock-throwing attack involves two quick throws followed by a delayed third, all of which can be parried or dodged.

Defeating the Chromatic Barbasucette rewards you with two Grandiose Chroma Catalysts, five Colour of Lumina, one Perfect Chroma Catalyst, and the Sucetton weapon for Sciel. You can also break a nearby glass jar at the water’s edge to collect an additional three Colour of Lumina.

Najabla the Merchant

Following the stream toward the Reverie Path Expedition Flag, you will find Najabla, a Gestral merchant. Najabla sells a wide range of Chroma Catalysts, Colour of Lumina, rare Pictos, and Esquie-themed hairstyles for each party member. This merchant is one of the best places in Verso’s Drafts to spend excess Chroma if you are preparing for late-game challenges.

If you choose to fight Najabla and win, an additional weapon becomes available in the shop. After the fight, you can purchase the Bonbim weapon for Lune, provided you have enough Chroma. Behind Najabla, you can also follow the water to a waterfall ledge to collect extra Chroma before moving on.

Birthday Cake Door Puzzle

Once you have collected all three Pieces of Cake, they automatically combine into the Birthday Cake item. With this item in your inventory, return to the woodland area near the Gestral Baths where the large gingerbread door with googly eyes is located. Interact with the door and offer the Birthday Cake to open a previously sealed path.

Beyond the door, follow the path forward and grapple across the gap to face a group of enemies including a Franctale and two Licorne. Defeating them rewards you with Grandiose Chroma Catalysts and a Recoat. Additional rewards can be found by checking nearby crates and a broken train track. Continue along the tracks to fight another group of enemies, then board the small train at the end to travel to Licornapieds Station.

Licornapieds Boss Fight

After stepping off the train at Licornapieds Station, head forward to begin the boss fight against Licornapieds. This enemy combines traits from Machinapieds and Licorne, resulting in long, aggressive combo sequences and heavy party-wide pressure. Throughout the fight, Licornapieds can apply Powerful to itself while inflicting Barbapapa stacks on all active party members.

Many of its attacks involve extended melee strings that require precise timing. Some combos feature rapid punches followed by delayed strikes, while others mix spinning attacks with aerial slams and projectile follow-ups. One particularly dangerous sequence includes a multi-hit raging combo that attacks in pairs, forcing you to maintain focus through several timing changes. Licornapieds can also perform aerial dive attacks similar to Machinapieds, which must be parried after it pauses in midair.

As the fight progresses, Licornapieds introduces attacks that blend melee pressure with rainbow projectiles, testing both reaction speed and endurance. After successfully defeating the boss, you will receive the Frenzy Pictos, marking the completion of this major challenge and opening the path forward toward the final content beyond Verso’s Drafts.
